The FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee is set to kick off the PGA Tour’s postseason. Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world and FedEx Cup Standings, leads the field, which also includes top players such as Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, and Tommy Fleetwood. However, defending champion Lucas Glover missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship and will not be advancing to the postseason after failing to rise into the top 70.
The top 50 players in the FedEx Cup Standings at the end of the tournament will earn a spot in the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club in Denver. The tournament will be held at TPC Southwind, a par 70 course measuring 7,243 yards. The course history at TPC Southwind shows the average finish position and “Strokes Gained” per round in each category since 2015.
The betting odds for the FedEx St. Jude Championship show Scottie Scheffler as the favorite, followed by players like Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, and Collin Morikawa. Other contenders include Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, and Tommy Fleetwood. Tommy Fleetwood, the Olympic silver medalist, has been in good form, with six top-20 finishes in his recent tournaments, and finished T-3 at last year’s FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Hideki Matsuyama, the Olympic bronze medalist, is another player to watch at the tournament. Despite recent struggles at the Scottish Open and The Open, Matsuyama has performed well at TPC Southwind in previous years, finishing inside the top 20 in his last three trips, including a runner-up effort in 2021. Sungjae Im and Sahith Theegala are also expected to be in contention, with solid performances in recent events and past success at TPC Southwind.
Jason Day, who is ranked 26th in the FedEx Cup Standings, is another player to keep an eye on. After a missed cut at the U.S. Open, Day’s game has been on an upward trend, with strong finishes at the Travelers Championship, The Open, and the Olympics. The Australian finished T-6 at the 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and will be looking to continue his good form at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
