Catriona Matthew OBE, the two-time Solheim Cup-winning captain, will continue to lead Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup match against the United States of America at Bel-Air Country Club in 2026. Her previous success in securing a memorable victory at Sunningdale earlier this year will be featured in a new R&A documentary, Rising: Inside the Curtis Cup, which will showcase her leadership and the team’s triumph.
The 44th Curtis Cup will take place in Los Angeles, California from 12-14 June 2026, with Matthew aiming to secure a fourth team triumph. Having brought a wealth of knowledge and experience from her decorated amateur and professional career, Matthew’s appointment marked a new era for the GB&I side and inspired the team to victory. Her leadership and tactical skills were instrumental in the team’s success at Sunningdale.
Delighted by her reappointment as Captain, Matthew expressed her excitement for the upcoming challenge of leading GB&I on away soil at Bel-Air. With previous experience as a player on three GB&I Curtis Cup teams and as the winning captain of two Solheim Cups, Matthew is well-equipped to build a high-performing and motivated team aiming to retain the trophy.
The R&A TV will air Rising: Inside the Curtis Cup on Thursday, providing viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at GB&I’s historic win under Matthew’s leadership. Featuring interviews with key team members, the documentary offers a unique insight into the team’s journey to victory at Sunningdale and sets the stage for their upcoming challenge at Bel-Air in 2026.
Dean Robertson, a European Tour winner and High Performance Golf Coach at the University of Stirling, will captain GB&I in the Walker Cup at the Cypress Point Club in September. Robertson will also lead GB&I in the St Andrews Trophy in Spain in July. Additionally, Chris King has been reappointed as Captain of GB&I’s Jacques Léglise Trophy team, while Deirdre Walsh will lead the GB&I girls’ team for the Junior Vagliano Trophy.
Under Walsh’s leadership, the GB&I girls’ team secured a first-ever victory over the Continent of Europe in the Junior Vagliano Trophy at West Lancashire in August. Former Curtis Cup player Maria Dunne will also return as Captain of the Vagliano Trophy team, with the tournaments taking place at Royal Hague Golf & Country Club in the Netherlands in June and the Royal Golf Club of Belgium in August. These international matches showcase the talent and leadership within the GB&I teams across different age groups.
