Wentworth Club has denied rumors of being sold to the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) and confirmed that it is not for sale. The club, which was acquired by the Reignwood Group in 2014, has stated that there are no plans for the iconic British club to change ownership. Despite various expressions of interest following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Reignwood Group remains committed to their long-term investment in the club.

In an exclusive interview with Golf Monthly, the Wentworth Board dismissed reports of discussions with the PIF or any interest in additional investment. The club has not been in direct dialogue with the PIF regarding a potential sale. Reignwood has invested over £20m in upgrades to the club, including renovations to the West course and clubhouse. The East Course is currently undergoing renovation and plans are in place to improve the tennis facilities by 2025.

Wentworth Club remains a key asset in Reignwood’s global golf club portfolio, along with Reignwood Pine Valley in Beijing and Reignwood Park in Thailand. The club has big plans for the future, including the launch of the reimagined East Course and a new state-of-the-art Golf Academy. The exclusive membership model, based on debentures, has proven successful with nearly 800 members.

Reignwood aims to establish Wentworth Club as the world’s premier private golf and country club. The club is focused on sustainability and creating opportunities for the next generation of athletes through the Wentworth Foundation. The membership experience at Wentworth is described as unmatched, with continued investment ensuring the preservation of the club’s distinguished heritage in golf.

Wentworth has been the host venue for the BMW PGA Championship, the flagship event on the DP World Tour schedule, for 40 years. Recent events, such as Billy Horschel’s playoff victory over Rory McIlroy, have been described as incredible moments on the West course. The club has welcomed over 100,000 spectators to their private estate for the tournament.

Reignwood Group is dedicated to maintaining the legacy of Wentworth Club and ensuring its long-lasting success. The club’s rich history and commitment to excellence in golf make it a prized asset in the global golfing community. With ongoing investment and strategic planning, Wentworth Club is poised for a bright future as a leading destination for golf enthusiasts worldwide.
