In a remarkable turn of events, a father, son, and stepdad all achieved their first holes-in-one in the same month. Carl Ham-Howes and his son Lewis, both members at La Moye in Jersey, were inspired after watching The Open at Royal Troon. During a trip to Scotland, they stayed at Cameron House, Loch Lomond, and played at The Wee Demon golf course, where Carl hit a hole-in-one on the 17th hole, a 151-yard par 3.
Despite playing golf for 36 years, Carl had never come close to achieving a hole-in-one before. However, his 6-iron shot that bounced twice on the green before disappearing into the hole was a moment he will always cherish. Just three weeks later, Lewis’ stepfather Paul Soares also achieved his first-ever hole-in-one at the 5th hole, a 134-yard par 3 while playing in a local club competition at St. Clements in Jersey.
Lewis, inspired by his father and stepfather’s achievements, predicted that he would be next to achieve a hole-in-one. His prediction came true when he hit a perfect shot with his 3-wood on the par-4 4th hole, 275 yards from the pin, during the Jersey Golf Junior Festival at St. Clements. Notably, achieving a hole-in-one on a par-4, also known as an albatross, is estimated to be at odds of 6 million-1, making Lewis’ achievement even more remarkable.
An England Golf spokesperson commented on the rare occurrence of all three family members achieving their first holes-in-one in the same month. They highlighted that the odds of a hole-in-one for amateur golfers are around 12,000-1, making Carl and Paul’s achievements impressive, and Lewis’ achievement even more remarkable. The spokesperson mentioned that the family’s success serves as inspiration and belief for other golfers who dream of achieving a hole-in-one.
The father, son, and stepdad’s achievements showcase the unpredictability and excitement of the game of golf. Their shared success in achieving their first holes-in-one within the same month is truly astonishing and serves as a reminder of the magic and inspiration that golf can bring to players of all levels. As the golfing community celebrates their remarkable achievements, it also reignites the passion and determination in every golfer who dreams of hitting that perfect shot.
