The Team Cup, formerly known as the Hero Cup, will be making a return in 2025 for its second edition. This three-day event will see teams from Continental Europe and Great Britain & Ireland competing against each other. The match is set to begin on 10 January at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort, with Francesco Molinari leading the Continental Europe team and Justin Rose at the helm for Great Britain & Ireland. This will be Molinari’s second time as captain, having previously led Continental Europe to victory, while it will be Rose’s first time as captain.

The Team Cup offers players the opportunity to gain valuable experience in team match play golf, which can be beneficial ahead of the Ryder Cup. Taking place at Bethpage Black in September of the following year, the Ryder Cup is a key event that both captains will have their eyes on. Luke Donald, the Team Europe captain, sees the Team Cup as a great opportunity for players to experience a unique team environment and understand what it means to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup.

Donald is pleased with the appointment of Molinari and Rose as captains for the 2025 Team Cup. He believes that both captains have what it takes to lead their teams to success. Molinari expressed his delight at having the opportunity to captain Continental Europe again and defend the Team Cup title. He emphasized the special bond that forms among players from different countries when working towards a common goal. Rose, on the other hand, is excited about molding the talented DP World Tour stars from Great Britain and Ireland into a winning team.

Teams for the 2025 Team Cup will be selected based on the top four available players from the 2024 Race to Dubai Rankings. The captains will then choose an additional five players for each side, with input from Luke Donald. The format of the tournament will include one session of fourball on Friday, two sessions of foursomes on Saturday, and one session of singles on Sunday. Each player will compete in all four sessions, with each match worth a point towards determining the overall winner, with the team reaching 12.5 points declared the winner.

The return of the Team Cup is seen as a valuable opportunity for players to gain experience in team match play and prepare for the Ryder Cup. Captains Francesco Molinari and Justin Rose are looking forward to leading their respective teams to victory in this prestigious event. With the tournament set to take place at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort in January 2025, golf fans can look forward to three days of exciting competition between the best players from Continental Europe and Great Britain & Ireland.
