Jon Rahm, a two-time major winner, made headlines at the start of the 2025 season by switching putters and drivers. Rahm, who had been using Odyssey’s Rossie S putter since the summer of 2021, decided to make a change for the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. He traded his familiar Rossie for the new Odyssey Ai-ONE #24 Slant putter, a mallet design inspired by classic cars. The #24 features a square shape with a large rectangular channel in the middle, providing a new look for Rahm as he starts the season.
Rahm’s switch to the #24 putter was motivated by the need for better alignment aid. Callaway Tour Manager Joe Toulon explained that the new shape helped Rahm align his putts more effectively than the Rossie S, which ultimately improved his start lines. Despite Rahm’s preference for minimal alignment aids, the square shape of the #24 offered just enough assistance for him to make the change. The new putter, which is the same length as his previous one but lighter in weight, has already made an impact on Rahm’s performance on the green.
In addition to the putter change, Rahm also introduced Callaway’s Elyte Triple Diamond driver to his bag, replacing the Paradym Ai-Smoke driver he used in 2024. The Elyte TD features adjustable weights in the front and back to customize the center of gravity, allowing Rahm to fine-tune his launch characteristics. With a 10.5-degree head and a Ventus Black 7-X shaft, Rahm’s new driver setup complements his swing and playing style. Combined with his new putter, these equipment adjustments mark a significant change for Rahm at the beginning of the season.
Despite the equipment changes, Rahm faced challenges at the Dubai tournament, missing the cut after a disappointing performance on Friday. While the start of his season may not have gone as planned, Rahm’s decision to switch clubs is still noteworthy. His next start will be closely watched to see if there are any further adjustments or improvements to his game. For golfers looking to upgrade their gear in 2025, Rahm’s equipment changes serve as a reminder of the importance of finding the right fit for your game. Whether it’s a new putter or driver, finding the right equipment can make a significant difference in performance on the course.
