Josh Brewer, the new women’s golf coach at Eastern Michigan University, sees in player Savannah De Bock the unfailing confidence that all good players possess in their game. De Bock, a native of Belgium, transferred to Eastern Michigan for her sophomore season to follow a coach she connected with and now has the potential to help revitalize the Eagles’ women’s golf program. With her talent and confidence, Brewer believes De Bock could be a contender for the Annika Award Watch List and other postseason honors, causing headaches for top schools.

De Bock’s fall season began with a tie for eighth at the Leadership and Golf Invitational at Chambers Bay in Washington. Despite a quadruple bogey on the 18th hole, she learned from the experience and continued to improve. At the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Colorado, De Bock won her first individual title in two years with a spectacular performance, finishing 15-under for the tournament and showcasing her skills on a challenging course.

De Bock’s improved club-head speed and willingness to adapt her game plan were evident in her recent victories. She aims not only to play professionally but also to excel in the sport, setting goals such as winning the LPGA grand slam and contributing to a Solheim Cup victory for Europe. Her dedication to improving and achieving success is evident in her approach to the game and her desire to reach new heights in her career.

With support from Eastern Michigan University’s recent commitment of $6.5 million to the golf programs, players like De Bock have access to resources and opportunities to compete at the highest level. The generous donation from GameAbove, led by alum Keith Stone, has enabled the program to expand its staffing, facilities, and travel funds, creating a strong foundation for success.

Brewer’s experience as a coach, with previous stints at Georgia and USC, has prepared him for the challenge of building a successful program at Eastern Michigan. His mantra of “Why not Eastern Michigan?” reflects his belief in the program’s potential to compete with top schools and achieve excellence in women’s golf. By nurturing talented players like De Bock and providing them with the resources needed to succeed, Brewer is determined to prove that success can be achieved regardless of a program’s status.

As De Bock continues to excel on the course and pursue her goals in golf, her partnership with Brewer and Eastern Michigan’s commitment to the program’s success provide a strong foundation for future achievements. With her talent, determination, and unwavering confidence in her abilities, De Bock is poised to make a significant impact on the women’s golf scene and achieve her dreams in the sport.
