The 15th annual outing for The Social Golfer Open Championship took place at Bletchingley Golf Club in Surrey, where over 50 golfers competed and raised money for the upcoming 2024 Cairns Cup. The event included individual Stableford competitions for men and women, as well as a yellow ball team competition. The men’s competition was closely contested, with Kent’s Sam Cooke emerging as the winner after a countback. In the women’s event, Chrissy Peacham secured a four-point victory, while The Stooges team claimed the yellow ball competition title.

The partnership between The Social Golfer and The Cairns Cup has now been in place for four years, with this year’s event raising over £3,000 for disability golf. The funds raised will help support the European team’s journey to the upcoming match play event in Michigan, as well as their carers. Participants in the tournament also enjoyed a two-course American-style BBQ and the one-armed chip competition sponsored by GoGoGo Sport Rangefinders.

Following the tournament, prizes were awarded to the winners of various categories, including the Women’s Trophy, Men’s Trophy, Golf News Guest Trophy, and the One-Arm Chip competition. Other prize winners included individuals who excelled in Nearest the Pin contests, Straightest Drive, and the Yellow Ball Team competition. The event also featured a prize raffle with vouchers to play at leading venues in the South East.

Women’s Trophy was won by Chrissy Peacham from Essex, with Ruth Brand from Sussex finishing as the runner-up. In the Men’s competition, Sam Cooke from Kent emerged victorious on countback, with John Moody from Buckinghamshire also finishing with a total of 35 points. The Golf News Guest Trophy was claimed by Jason Croucher from Cambridgeshire, who also won the Yellow Ball Team competition alongside Rich White, Cass Stevens, and Phil Meadows.

The successful event received positive feedback from the participants, with Chrissy Peacham expressing her excitement at winning her first golf event and thanking the sponsors and donors for their support. Jason Croucher also shared his pride in winning the Golf News Magazine Guest Trophy and congratulated The Social Golfer team for organizing a fantastic event. The day concluded with a prize raffle and overall feeling of camaraderie among the golfers.
