As the dust settles on the end of the LIV Golf season, the first major move of the offseason has been made. Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces team has acquired Thomas Pieters via trade from Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats GC. This marks the first trade of what could be a busy offseason for the league. The trade did not involve sending a player back to RangeGoats GC, and there are expectations that the 4Aces will not re-sign Pat Perez, whose contract expires in early 2025.

Pieters, whose LIV Golf contract runs through 2025, finished 30th in the individual season standings in 2024. He brings experience to the 4Aces team, having scored four points for Europe in the 2016 Ryder Cup. Players who finished between 25th and 48th in the season standings were subject to being traded or dropped from their teams to become free agents. Pieters will join a 4Aces team that won the inaugural LIV Golf Team Championship in 2022 but struggled in the regular season in 2024.

This trade follows a pattern from the previous offseason, where the 4Aces and RangeGoats GC also made player swaps. Harold Varner III joined Johnson’s team in exchange for Peter Uihlein. With RangeGoats GC now in need of filling a roster spot, there are several options that could be explored. Bubba Watson could look to the Open Zone for available players or consider signing someone from outside the league. With Watson himself being relegated from the league, the RangeGoats GC could see two new players on their roster in 2025.

Rumors have been circulating about potential signings and trades in the LIV Golf league this offseason. The acquisition of Thomas Pieters by the 4Aces could be just the beginning of a series of player movements within the league. Only time will tell how the rest of the offseason plays out and what other surprises may be in store for fans and players alike. Stay tuned for more updates as the league prepares for its fourth season.
