Wentworth Club, a renowned venue located in Surrey, has announced plans to renovate its 100-year-old East Course and build a new golf academy and par-3 course. The East Course, designed by Harry Colt and opened in 1924, is set to undergo a significant renovation to return to its heathland roots and restore Colt’s original design values. Leading architects European Golf Design will work closely with Wentworth’s senior management team to carry out the renovation project.

The renovation project will include extensive remodelling of bunkers and the redefining of fairways on the 6,200-yard East Course. Changes outlined in the plans include reshaping several of the green complexes and fairways, as well as combining smaller bunkers to create larger ones. Additionally, a woodland management program is set to enhance the landscape as part of the club’s commitment to sustainability.

In addition to the renovation of the East Course, Wentworth Club will be constructing a new golf academy on the premises. The academy will feature three indoor teaching studios, a putting studio, an outdoor short game area, and a café with outdoor seating. The latest technology for game improvement will be incorporated into the academy, and nine new outdoor hitting bays will also be added to the surrounding area.

One of the key features of the new development is the construction of a par-3 short course, which will be long enough to be certified for handicapping purposes. The new putting studio and outdoor hitting bays will further enhance the golf experience for members and visitors at Wentworth Club. Stuart Boyle, Club Manager at Wentworth, emphasized the club’s commitment to providing a world-class offering for its members and creating a golf and country club experience that is admired worldwide.

The renovation work on the East Course is seen as a significant step in making a classic heathland test even greater while preserving the original roots that have made the layout iconic over the years. The new Golf Academy is expected to further enhance the golf offering at Wentworth, providing members with state-of-the-art facilities for game improvement and practice. The club’s dedication to sustainability is also evident in the plans for the woodland management program, which will help enhance the landscape surrounding the East Course and the new academy.

Overall, the renovation of the East Course and the construction of the new Golf Academy are part of Wentworth Club’s ongoing efforts to provide a top-tier golf experience for its members and visitors. By combining traditional design values with modern technology and sustainable practices, Wentworth is positioning itself as a premier destination for golf enthusiasts. The new development plans are set to elevate the golf and country club experience at Wentworth to new heights, ensuring that it remains a cherished and admired venue in the golfing world.
