The 2025 Masters tournament is in full swing at Augusta National, with Justin Rose holding the 36-hole lead by one shot. While Rose’s three-shot cushion from the first round has been trimmed, he remains at the top of the leaderboard heading into Moving Day. As the tournament progresses, fans are eagerly anticipating an exciting third round.

On Day 2 of the tournament, Justin Rose maintained his lead with a second-round 71, keeping him one shot ahead of the field. This is the third time Rose has found himself in the lead at the Masters, and the 44-year-old is poised to make a run for his first green jacket. Despite not matching the magic of his opening-round 65, Rose feels confident and ready to compete at the highest level.

Rory McIlroy experienced a rollercoaster of emotions during the first two rounds of the tournament. After a strong start on Thursday, McIlroy faltered with two double bogeys. However, he bounced back in the second round with a six-under 66, placing him in a tie for third with Corey Conners. McIlroy’s resilience and determination have put him in contention for the weekend.

The 36-hole leaderboard at the 2025 Masters features a mix of familiar names and up-and-coming contenders. Alongside Rose and McIlroy, players like Bryson DeChambeau, Matt McCarty, and Shane Lowry are within striking distance of the lead. Major winners Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day, and Xander Schauffele are also in contention, promising an exciting weekend of golf at Augusta National.

One of the surprises on the leaderboard is Matt McCarty, a relatively unknown player who earned his spot at the Masters with a PGA Tour victory. Ranked 56th in the world, McCarty has quickly made a name for himself in the world of professional golf. Despite limited major championship experience, his strong performance at the Players Championship proved he can compete at the highest level.

As the tournament progresses, fans are also taking note of the players who did not make the cut at the 2025 Masters. Notable names like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Brooks Koepka failed to qualify for the weekend, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the sport. Even ageless wonders like Bernhard Langer and Freddie Couples will be watching from the sidelines this year.

With so many players within striking distance of the lead, the third round of the 2025 Masters promises to be full of drama and excitement. Justin Rose will look to maintain his position at the top of the leaderboard, while challengers like Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau seek to close the gap. As the weekend unfolds, golf fans can look forward to a thrilling conclusion at one of the sport’s most prestigious events.
