Adam Scott shoots 63 following switch to custom Miura irons

Adam Scott, the former Masters champion, continued to make equipment changes leading into the BMW Championship. As an equipment free agent, Scott has the freedom to switch out gear that isn’t working for him. After using Miura AS-1 blades during the Genesis Scottish Open, Scott decided to bring them back into his bag for the BMW Championship. The wider sole and lower bounce on the AS-1 blades were a good fit for the firmer links-style conditions in Scotland, but he switched to a mixed setup for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Despite the trend of modern cavity-back irons for most golfers, Scott prefers blades for their workability and familiarity. He decided to switch back to the AS-1 blades for their design and performance under pressure. Scott grew up playing blades in Australia and feels most comfortable using them, even though cavity-back irons may offer more forgiveness and ball speed. The AS-1 blades have more offset than many modern blade offerings and a unique sole design to handle different turf conditions on the Tour.

Scott’s Miura AS-1 irons can be custom-ordered through Fairway Jockey for $3,750 for an 8-piece set. Scott’s decision to use these irons is based on his confidence and comfort with them, as well as their performance on different types of turf. While the trend may be moving towards cavity-back irons for forgiveness, Scott values the familiarity and performance of the AS-1 blades. His experience as an accomplished ball-striker allows him to make the most of the workability of blades despite their smaller club face.

The Miura AS-1 irons were designed with direct feedback from Scott, making them a personalized option for golfers who value precision and feel in their irons. Scott’s success with the AS-1 blades at the BMW Championship, where he posted a 63 during the second round to build a five-shot lead, showcases the performance capabilities of these custom-made irons. Scott’s ability to adapt and make changes to his equipment based on course conditions and personal preferences highlights the importance of finding the right gear for optimal performance on the course.
