Increase Your Drive Distance with This Wrist Stretch

Are you looking to add a few extra yards to your drive? Flexibility is key when it comes to hitting longer drives on the golf course. While most golfers stretch before their round, many neglect to warm up their hands and fingers. These body parts are crucial for swinging the club correctly and generating speed. By incorporating hand and finger stretches into your warm-up routine, you can maximize your clubhead speed and reduce the risk of injury.

One simple 60-second stretch can help get your hands warm and ready for action. Start by extending your lead arm with your palm facing down, and use your opposite hand to pull your lead hand straight down. Hold this position for 10 seconds to elongate the muscles in your wrist. Then, rotate your arm so that your palm is facing up and repeat the stretch by pulling your fingers down. This will help stretch the muscles in your fingers, palm, and elbow. Be sure to perform these stretches with both hands to ensure that both are warm and ready to go.

By incorporating these hand and finger stretches into your routine, you can improve your clubhead speed and accuracy on the course. It’s also a good idea to do a quick version of these stretches before attempting a shot from deep rough, where wrist injuries are most common. By keeping your hands and fingers limber and flexible, you can reduce the risk of injury and perform at your best on the course.

Scott Munroe, a GOLF Top 100 Teacher, recommends these hand and finger stretches to his students at The Boca Raton Club in Boca Raton, Fla., and Nantucket GC in Siasconset, Mass. Munroe emphasizes the importance of properly warming up these crucial speed producers to maximize performance and prevent injury on the course. By incorporating these simple stretches into your routine, you can improve your game and hit longer drives with greater accuracy.

In addition to stretching your hands and fingers, Munroe also suggests incorporating other flexibility exercises into your warm-up routine. Squats, side bends, and swinging two clubs are all effective ways to improve flexibility and range of motion before heading out on the course. By taking the time to warm up properly, you can improve your overall performance and reduce the risk of injury during your round.

Don’t overlook the importance of warming up your hands and fingers before you hit the course. These body parts play a crucial role in generating speed and power in your swing, so it’s essential to keep them limber and flexible. By incorporating simple stretches into your routine, you can improve your clubhead speed, accuracy, and overall performance on the course. Take a few extra minutes to warm up properly, and you’ll see the difference in your game.
