Zero torque putters have become increasingly popular in the golfing world, with brands like Odyssey Golf and L.A.B. Golf at the forefront of this trend. Recently, Odyssey Golf introduced their Square2Square Max putters, sparking discussions about potential similarities to the L.A.B. DF3 putter. GOLF’s Johnny Wunder, a former Callaway employee, shared insights on the development of the Square2Square Max putter, noting that it was initially met with skepticism before being brought to market by Odyssey. The introduction of these zero torque putters is seen as a strategic move by brands like Callaway to capitalize on a growing trend in the industry.

Since L.A.B. Golf first introduced their Lie Angle Balance technology in 2018, several other brands have followed suit with their own versions of zero torque putters. Odyssey’s Square2Square Max putters, launched last fall, incorporated this technology to provide golfers with a more stable putting experience. The Ai-ONE Square to Square Jailbird Custom Putter from Odyssey features a modern center shafted design, AI-designed insert for consistent ball speed, built-in forward press for hand position, and a navy blue PVD finish for a premium look. If Odyssey decides to release the Square2Square Max putters to the retail market, it is expected to be well-received by both consumers and competitors alike.

Despite potential similarities between the Square2Square Max and the L.A.B. DF3 putters, industry experts like Johnny Wunder believe that competition in the market is healthy for innovation and brand differentiation. With brands like L.A.B., Odyssey, Scotty Cameron, and Bettinardi each carving out their unique identities in the putter market, there is room for diverse offerings to cater to different types of golfers. This competition can ultimately benefit consumers by providing a wider range of options to choose from based on their preferences and playing style.

The emergence of zero torque putters has marked a significant milestone for L.A.B. Golf, signaling their impact and influence on the industry. What was once seen as a niche offering has now become a recognized trend, with more players and brands embracing the Lie Angle Balance technology pioneered by L.A.B. Golf. This recognition of innovation and design prowess is a testament to the vision of L.A.B. founder Sam Hahn, who has been hailed as a “mad scientist” for his unconventional approach to putter design. With the growing adoption of zero torque putters on the PGA Tour and beyond, it is clear that this trend is here to stay.

As the golf industry continues to evolve, advancements in technology and design are reshaping the way golfers approach the game. Zero torque putters represent a shift towards more stable and consistent putting stroke, enhancing performance and confidence on the greens. With brands like Odyssey and L.A.B. leading the charge in this space, golfers have access to cutting-edge equipment that can help elevate their game to new heights. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a weekend golfer, the advent of zero torque putters offers a promising future for improved putting performance and overall enjoyment on the course.
