Phil Mickelson, a veteran in the professional golf world, recently spoke to the media about the upcoming LIV Golf event in Illinois. Despite being new to digital platforms like YouTube, Mickelson is taking on the role of hosting a YouTube challenge called Pros vs. Schmos. This challenge, inspired by Bryson DeChambeau’s success on YouTube, aims to engage with fans on a more intimate level and showcase the personalities of contestants.

LIV Golf’s team golf format has been a new and enjoyable experience for Mickelson, who has been playing professionally for over three decades. He believes that despite the current disruption in the professional golf game, the future is promising with initiatives like Pros vs. Schmos and targeting a younger generation through platforms like YouTube. Mickelson sees the potential for LIV to expand globally and bring professional golf to audiences around the world.

Mickelson’s decision to join LIV came with some frustration towards the PGA Tour, where he had dedicated over 30 years to helping build the brand. Now, he is focused on building something different with the HyFlyers franchise. While he acknowledges the challenges of competing at his age, Mickelson is determined to continue playing competitively and hopes to be involved with the HyFlyers for the rest of his life.

Despite recent struggles in his short game, Mickelson remains optimistic about his future in golf and his involvement with the HyFlyers. He plans to compete in major tournaments on the regular tour and aims to create a sustainable culture within the team. Mickelson’s focus on improving his short game and adapting to changes in professional golf indicates his commitment to staying competitive and influencing the game’s future.

Mickelson’s comments highlight LIV Golf’s independent direction and its focus on engaging with fans through new platforms. He remains unconcerned about potential deals with the PGA Tour or low broadcast TV ratings, emphasizing the need for innovation and adaptation in the evolving landscape of professional golf. As a key figure in LIV Golf’s growth and development, Mickelson’s experience and insights shape the league’s trajectory and influence the future of the sport as a whole.
