The 124th U.S. Open has reached its third round, setting the stage for an exciting final day of golf at Pinehurst No. 2. Bryson DeChambeau currently holds the lead as he vies for his second U.S. Open title, with notable challengers like Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, and Matthieu Pavon hot on his heels. Ludvig Aberg and Hideki Matsuyama are also within striking distance, making for a competitive field heading into Sunday’s round.

The stakes are high for the winner of this year’s U.S. Open, as they will not only receive a 10-year exemption into the tournament but also five-year exemptions into the PGA Championship, Open Championship, and the Masters. Additionally, the USGA recently announced a record-breaking prize purse for the event, with the winner set to take home a massive $4.3 million – the largest first-prize check for a major champion to date. Even those who don’t claim victory will still earn substantial prizes, with the top four finishers each taking home over $1 million and the top 10 all earning at least $500,000.

The full purse breakdown for the 2024 U.S. Open includes a total of $21.5 million in prize money, with the following distribution for the top 70 finishers. The breakdown ranges from the $4.3 million awarded to the champion down to $39,113 for the 70th place finisher. This significant financial incentive adds an extra layer of excitement and motivation for players as they compete for the prestigious title.

As the tournament heads into its final round, spectators and fans can expect a thrilling finish at Pinehurst No. 2. With a mix of experienced players like McIlroy and emerging talents like Aberg, the leaderboard promises an exciting battle for the title. The unique layout and challenges of the course will test the players’ skills and mental toughness, adding to the drama of the competition.

For Bryson DeChambeau, the opportunity to add another U.S. Open title to his resume is tantalizing, as he looks to cement his status as one of the premier players on the tour. His strong performance through the first three rounds has positioned him as the favorite heading into Sunday, but he will need to maintain his composure and execution to fend off the competition and secure the victory. The pressure of a major championship can bring out the best in players, and DeChambeau will need to rise to the occasion to claim the top prize.

With so much on the line, including exemptions, prestige, and a substantial financial reward, the final round of the U.S. Open promises to deliver a memorable conclusion to the tournament. As the players navigate the challenging course and battle against each other, golf fans around the world will be glued to their screens, eagerly watching the drama unfold. Whether DeChambeau can hold on to his lead or if one of his rivals will rise to the occasion, Sunday at Pinehurst No. 2 is sure to be a fitting climax to an exciting week of golf.
