Rory McIlroy’s Ex-Agent, Chubby Chandler, Targets TGL

Rory McIlroy’s former agent Chubby Chandler recently shared his thoughts on the newly launched TGL, a tech-infused contest co-founded by McIlroy and Tiger Woods. Chandler expressed his disappointment with the TGL, stating that it was only launched to reward PGA Tour players who did not join LIV Golf. He believes that the main aim of the TGL is to put cash in the pockets of top players who chose not to join LIV Golf.

Chandler also criticized the roster of the TGL, which includes 24 PGA Tour players, including McIlroy and Woods. He believes that the TGL is repeating the mistakes made by LIV Golf, particularly in terms of not including women in team events. Chandler suggested that having female players like Charley Hull would make the event more entertaining.

Additionally, Chandler questioned the layout of the short games in the TGL, stating that the chipping and putting aspects seemed flawed and artificial. He expressed doubts about whether a different set of players would excel in simulator golf compared to traditional golf. Chandler believes that it will take the rest of the season to fully assess the merits of the TGL.

Chandler also criticized the players being mic’d up during the event, claiming that they can only entertain through their on-course abilities rather than by cracking jokes. He feels that the TGL did not hit the mark in showcasing another side of the players and providing entertainment beyond their golf skills. Chandler observed that the audience seemed bewildered during the event, indicating a lack of understanding of what was happening.

In conclusion, Chandler’s critique of the TGL highlights concerns about the event’s true intentions, the roster composition, and the overall entertainment value for viewers. Despite his reservations, Chandler acknowledges that it will be interesting to see how the TGL evolves over the course of the season and whether any improvements will be made. The feedback from industry insiders like Chandler could potentially influence the future direction and success of the TGL as it seeks to establish itself in the competitive landscape of professional golf tournaments.
