The SoFi Center has been outfitted with 18 Full Swing launch monitors for Tiger Woods’ new TGL indoor golf league. This groundbreaking innovation will allow for a first-of-its-kind virtual golf competition to take place in the league’s inaugural match. Full Swing, the same brand used by Tiger Woods for his personal launch monitors and home simulator, has partnered with TGL to provide all the launch monitors needed for the competition. The data from each player’s swings and shots will be captured and displayed on the massive 64′ by 53′ screen at the SoFi Center during the matches.
To capture the player’s full shots during a TGL match, Full Swing will utilize 18 Full Swing Kit radar-based launch monitors positioned around the SoFi Center. These launch monitors are strategically placed behind and to the sides of the TGL Screenzone to ensure accuracy and detail in tracking each shot. Each tee box for TGL has three different areas to play from, including real fairway grass, rough, and sand, providing a realistic experience for players. The launch monitors are designed to communicate with each other to ensure no shots are missed during competition.
Full Swing has developed advanced software for the TGL simulator, bringing the simulation to life and making it look like players are on a real golf course. The software captures initial launch conditions such as spin rate and club speed, working in conjunction with Toptracer for ball flight characterization. Players also have access to a digital caddie screen where they can plan out their next shot and view slope overlays. This technology allows for a strategic and immersive golf experience for players in the TGL league.
The TGL Greenzone, powered by Full Swing’s virtual green technology, provides players with an advanced indoor short game area. Underneath the 22,475-square-foot short game area are three Full Swing Virtual Green assemblies with 600 actuators that control the undulations of the green. The green has three tiers, and the entire setup sits on a rotating turntable for different hole configurations. Full Swing has created 30 landscapes for the green, allowing for unique and challenging gameplay for the TGL league.
The semi-virtual nature of the TGL league allows for course designers to create innovative and unique challenges that would not be possible on a traditional golf course. The technology-infused league celebrates the capabilities of tech in enhancing the golfing experience. The TGL league offers endless possibilities for course design, allowing for more strategic and engaging gameplay. With Full Swing’s cutting-edge technology and expertise, the TGL league promises to revolutionize indoor golf competitions and provide a new and exciting experience for players and viewers alike.
