Discovering a New Era of Women’s Golf Gear at The Ranch: A Refreshing Take on Style and Performance

Golf just hit different at The Ranch at Laguna Beach—seriously! Forget those cookie-cutter country club vibes; this place radiated creativity and passion, driven by the incredible women in the golf community. We’re talking golfers, artists, pros, and designers all coming together to redefine the golf experience as we’ve known it.

Now, let’s be honest. When I hopped on that plane to California, my expectations were pretty low. Brand trips often come off as glossy events—think staged smiles, racks of products, and forced compliments about the next big thing in equipment. However, what I encountered was a breath of fresh air, a genuine shift in the narrative for women in golf.

The Real Story Behind Women’s Golf Apparel

Here’s the deal: Women’s golf apparel has long been a hot mess. For years, options were limited to polos that felt like they were meant for your brother, skorts designed more for dress code compliance than functionality, and pastel dresses that seemed like they were in a time warp. Any woman golfer can share horror stories about wading through sizes and styles that didn’t complement her, feeling like she just plundered her great-aunt’s closet—or worse!

A shift is on the horizon, though. Brands are slowly but surely catching on. Women are done with the “meh” designs that don’t improve our game or give us the confidence we crave on the course. Leading this charge? Well, that’s adidas. The “Three Stripes Retreat” at The Ranch wasn’t your average brand trip. It was a groundbreaking collaboration where athletes, designers, and creators came together, not just to test products, but to advocate for real change in women’s golf apparel.

A Fit Check Like No Other

On the first day of the retreat, we dove right into an unexpected exercise that shattered all expectations. No awkward icebreakers here—adidas split us into teams for what felt like a design research project disguised as a team game. Each group was handed a blank mannequin, loads of brand-new Ultimate365 apparel, and a challenge: dress your girl for real-world scenarios. Got a round of golf followed by brunch? Check. Heading to a kid’s birthday party after nine holes? You bet!

Looking back, this exercise was so eye-opening. The versatility of their lineup was clear. Skorts transcended the “country club only” tag, while joggers weren’t just shoved into the “athleisure” box. The styles were fresh and functional, with pieces that could transform from a day on the course to a night out with just a swap of a hat or sweater.

Stepping Out on the Course

The following day, we hit the stunning nine-hole course at The Ranch, where the refreshing coastal air swept over us as we played. This golf course—and its home, the Barefoot League—embraced a laid-back and fun spirit. Picture surf town vibes where the sun washed over everything without taking itself too seriously. Sporting our new gear, we sank more putts than anticipated and, dare I say, built friendships that often go out the window after the 18th hole.

They’ve Got the Right Idea

Here’s the thing: The Ultimate365 lineup didn’t just look great on the racks—it felt like it was crafted by people who genuinely listened to women in golf. Let’s break down the goodies:

  1. Ultimate365 Gingham Skort: This beauty is lightweight, moisture-wicking, and offers four-way stretch. Stylish without being flashy, it lets you move freely without clinging to you.

  2. Ultimate365 Joggers: Finally, someone nailed the joggers! They breathe well, have a waistband that actually stays put, and offer a tapered fit that feels comfy and classy.

  3. Go-To Pleated Shorts: Perfectly structured without making you feel swallowed, they hit that sweet mid-rise spot that’s flattering yet functional.

  4. Go-To Layer Sweatshirt: Feather-light and easy to toss on, this sweatshirt lets you layer without the bulk. You’ll want to wear it constantly!

  5. MC Zoysia Shoes: These spikeless gems offer grip like no other. Plus, they’ve got a premium feel without the discomfort.

  6. Retrocross 25s: These shoes are the MVP of the lineup. They transition from the course to the city effortlessly. Stylish and functional—yes, please!

Time for Real Talk

What really struck me about the Three Stripes Retreat was the conversation. Adidas didn’t just parade out developers to blabber about their new stuff. They opened the floor for real feedback from women who actually wear the products. It was refreshing to have a platform to voice our needs and desires.

"We used to put women in knee-length skirts because that’s what the industry did. But women wanted sporty, feminine, and strong looks that make them feel good," said Jennie Ko, Design Director at Adidas Golf. This wasn’t just corporate speak. It was a call to action, an acknowledgment that the landscape of women’s golf apparel was, at last, changing.

The New Standard

As we headed back to the airport, it wasn’t just about finding clothes that fit well or shoes that suited a barefoot-friendly course. It was about the realization that women in golf now have a seat at the table where they belong—driving real change from the inside out.

Adidas might not be perfect—nobody is—but they are actively listening. They’re making moves to shorten hems and design versatile clothes because we’ve all been waiting for options like these. They understand that it’s more than just about looks; it’s about performance and confidence on the course.

Building Community in Women’s Golf

The retreat wasn’t just about a new line of clothing; it was about fostering connections. Shoulder to shoulder with powerhouse golfers like Hope Barnett and Rose Zhang, I felt the pulse of what it means to be part of a community focused on growing the game. We don’t all want to wear the same thing or play the same way; our differences make it beautiful.

When brands start taking women seriously—designing with integrity and intention—it’s a win for everyone involved. It’s not just a victory for Adidas; it’s a victory for golf itself.

In Conclusion

Kudos to Taylor Tiner and Karli McGillis for pulling off such a fantastic event. They didn’t miss a beat! The Three Stripes Retreat was a milestone in women’s golf, one that truly celebrated our diversity and strength. We’re ready for better, and we deserve it. When brands finally begin to recognize what women want and need in golf apparel, it opens up a new chapter that’s only just beginning.

So here’s to embracing a bright and stylish future on the fairway!
