14-Year-Old Girl Starts her Own Golf Attire Company for Teen Girls

Kate Korngold, a 14-year-old girl, launched Featherie, a high-performance, stylish golf attire company for teen girls when she was in seventh grade. The idea for Featherie was born out of Kate’s frustration with the lack of stylish and functional golf clothing options for teenage girls. Kate, who plays golf competitively on the MET PGA Junior Tour in New York, set out to create comfortable and fashionable golf attire for girls like herself, who struggled to find the right clothes to play in.

Kate’s journey to creating Featherie began when she was just 10 years old and could not find comfortable golf pants to play in during colder weather. Despite initial hesitation from her parents, Kate persisted in her idea and formally began sketching designs for Featherie in 2022. The company was officially launched in 2023, with Kate overseeing every aspect of the business, from fabric selection to building a team and drawing sketches. The name Featherie was chosen to symbolize the company’s goal of revolutionizing the golf industry for girls.

Featherie’s clothing line includes innovative features such as tee holders on the back of pants and skorts, zip-off sleeves on vests, auto-locking zippers on shirts, and sustainable fabric with UV protection. Kate’s attention to detail and understanding of the discomforts teen girls face in traditional golf clothes have contributed to the success of Featherie. Despite her young age, Kate has shown remarkable leadership and determination in running her business, balancing school, golf, and Featherie responsibilities.

Kate’s mother, Kristy, acknowledges the challenges of balancing school and business for Kate but commends her daughter for taking ownership of Featherie. Kate’s daily routine includes school, golf practice, work calls, homework, and playing golf on weekends. In January, Kate had the opportunity to showcase Featherie at the PGA Show and received overwhelming support from her peers. While Kate has personal goals in golf, her primary focus is on spreading the message that girls deserve representation and recognition in the golf industry.

Emilia Migliaccio, an amateur golfer and former collegiate athlete, shares Kate’s passion for empowering girls in sports. Emilia, who freelances for NBC Sports and PGA Tour Entertainment as an analyst and on-course reporter, recognizes the importance of projects like Featherie in creating a more inclusive and diverse golf community. Through Featherie, Kate hopes to inspire other young girls to pursue their passions and make a meaningful impact in traditionally male-dominated industries like golf.

In conclusion, Kate Korngold’s journey with Featherie exemplifies the power of determination, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose. As a young entrepreneur, Kate has defied expectations and stereotypes to establish a successful business that addresses a genuine need in the market. Featherie’s impact extends beyond providing stylish golf attire for teen girls; it represents a movement towards greater representation and recognition of girls in sports. Kate’s story serves as an inspiration to young girls everywhere, showing them that age is not a barrier to pursuing their dreams and making a difference in the world.
