Bryson DeChambeau made headlines during the Masters by using 3D-printed irons from Avoda Golf, a company that was relatively unknown at the time. DeChambeau’s success with the irons sparked a frenzy in the equipment world, with many people curious about the company and the unique design of the irons. However, information about Avoda and the irons was hard to come by initially.

GolfWRX.com had the opportunity to get an in-depth look at the irons ahead of the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, where DeChambeau went on to win using the bulge-faced 3D-printed irons. After the victory, GolfWRX.com spoke to Thomas Bailey, the founder of Avoda Golf, to learn more about the company and the design process behind DeChambeau’s irons. Bailey shared the story of how Avoda Golf started and how they collaborated with DeChambeau to create the unique set of irons.

Bailey revealed that Avoda Golf was born out of a desire to create a set of golf clubs that met his specific needs and preferences. With the help of Mike Schy, Bryson’s long-time coach, Bailey experimented with different club designs until he found the perfect set that felt like it had been “mauled by a bench grind.” The process involved a lot of trial and error, ultimately leading to the creation of the bulge-faced 3D-printed irons that DeChambeau used to win the U.S. Open.

The 3D printing aspect of the irons was crucial for rapid prototyping, allowing Avoda Golf to test different designs and make adjustments quickly. The company worked with an international manufacturer to produce the irons, focusing on creating a product that helped golfers get better performance on the course. The irons feature a progressive bulge design, with the 5-iron having the most curvature to suit DeChambeau’s swing speed.

Avoda Golf currently offers two sets of irons for purchase: a combo-length set and a same-length set. The combo-length set is designed to bridge the gap between variable length and same length irons, offering players the best of both worlds. The feedback from testers has been positive, with many players praising the performance and customization options of the irons. Avoda Golf is prioritizing getting their clubs into custom fitting centers to allow more golfers to test and experience the benefits of their unique designs.

Overall, the success of Avoda Golf and their collaboration with Bryson DeChambeau has put them on the map in the golf equipment industry. The rapid growth of the company and the demand for their products have pushed them to expand and focus on providing high-quality, custom-fitted clubs to golfers looking to improve their game. With a strong emphasis on performance and innovation, Avoda Golf is poised to make a significant impact in the world of golf equipment.
