Two Fazio-designed golf courses near Las Vegas are now closed and possibly sold

Primm Valley Golf Club, home to a pair of Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, is currently closed and reportedly sold. Located in California, just outside of Primm, Nevada, the property offers captivating views of the Mojave National Preserve and Clark Mountain. The courses opened in 1998 amidst much excitement, but the town did not grow as projected, leading to uncertainty about the future of the property.

Despite the close proximity to Las Vegas, the area has not experienced the anticipated growth, with members of the surrounding HOA successfully preventing a potential housing development on the golf course a few years ago. The closure and sale of Primm Valley Golf Club have been confirmed by an employee, although details remain scarce. The club’s website carries a message informing visitors of the closure and suggesting they stay tuned for updates.

Featuring two 18-hole courses designed by Tom Fazio, the club also boasts a 22-acre practice facility complete with a driving range and putting greens. While the future of Primm remains uncertain, the town’s three major hotels with casinos—Buffalo Bill’s, Whiskey Pete’s, and the Primm Valley Resort and Casino—continue to operate under the management of Affinity Gaming. Despite the closure of the golf courses, the hotels still offer entertainment options for visitors to the area.

Primm Valley Golf Club’s courses did not earn top honors in Golfweek’s Best ratings for California, indicating they may not have been as highly regarded compared to other golf courses in the state. The club’s closure raises questions about the viability of golf in the area and the potential impact on the local economy. As the town’s mall sits vacant, the future of Primm remains uncertain, with the fate of the golf courses and surrounding amenities hanging in the balance.

While the golf courses’ closure may disappoint loyal patrons, it also opens up opportunities for potential redevelopment or new investment in the area. The sale of the property suggests a new chapter for Primm Valley Golf Club, with the potential for new ownership to revitalize the courses and attract visitors back to the area. Whether the courses will be restored to their former glory or repurposed for a different use remains to be seen, but the sale signifies a significant change for the beloved golf destination.
