After Chicago, these LIV Golf stars are at risk of being demoted

As the 2024 LIV Golf League season comes to a close, some players are faced with the challenge of avoiding relegation. In the LIV Golf League, the Drop Zone consists of players ranked 49 and below in the individual standings, who will be relegated from the league and will have to participate in the 2024 LIV Golf Promotions tournament to try and earn their way back into a roster spot. However, captains or players with years remaining on their contract are exempt from relegation, ensuring that experienced players like Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer can retain their spots despite finishing in the Drop Zone in previous years.

Only 12 teams will compete in the team championship at Maridoe in Dallas, with the 13th-place team, currently Iron Heads GC, attending but not competing. This adds extra pressure for players who are on the verge of relegation, as they not only risk losing their spots in the league but also the opportunity to participate in the team championship. With the last regular-season event, LIV Golf Chicago at Bolingbrook, remaining, players must give their best performance to secure their positions.

Some players currently at risk of losing their spots include Harold Varner III and Pat Perez, who are ranked 47 and 48 respectively based on their current point totals. Additionally, Scott Vincent of Iron Heads GC, despite consistent top-25 finishes in his recent starts, will need a strong performance in Chicago to avoid relegation. Branden Grace of Stinger GC has an equal number of top-20 and bottom-50 finishes this year, highlighting the need for a consistent performance in the final event.

Laurie Canter, a reserve player who has only participated in two events this season, needs a strong showing in Chicago to secure his spot. Kalle Samooja and Kieran Vincent, who earned their spots in the league via the 2023 Promotions event, are also in danger of having to re-qualify for their positions. These players will need to bring their A-game in the final event to avoid relegation and continue their journey in the LIV Golf League.

The competition is fierce as players battle to secure their spots in the league and avoid relegation. With only one regular-season event left, the pressure is on for those in the Drop Zone to deliver a standout performance and secure their positions for the upcoming season. The 2024 LIV Golf League season has been filled with ups and downs for many players, and the final event in Chicago will be a make-or-break moment for those on the edge of relegation. As the season draws to a close, the fate of these players hangs in the balance, and only time will tell who will emerge victorious and secure their spots in the league.
