Spain has a long history of champions at Augusta National, and after her final-round 68, Carla Bernat Escuder added her name to that list. No country outside the United States has produced more Masters winners than Spain. Seve Ballesteros started the trend in the early ’80s, followed by José María Olazábal, Sergio Garcia, and Jon Rahm. At the 2025 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Bernat Escuder continued Spain’s tradition of excellence. With three consecutive rounds of 68, she posted 12 under par, winning the biggest title in women’s amateur golf by a stroke.

Entering the final round at Augusta National, the leaderboard was stacked with top players. Bernat Escuder, not among the favorites, started as an underdog. Despite little fanfare, she focused on the top players to play better. She got off to a perfect start with a par-birdie on the opening two holes and maintained her momentum throughout the front nine. The pressure mounted on the back nine, but Bernat Escuder remained calm and focused.

Spanish golfers are known for their competitiveness and inventive play on the course. Bernat Escuder displayed these traits when faced with a challenging shot on the 10th hole. With guidance from her friend Josele Ballester, she executed a high, soft flop shot perfectly. Despite a late stumble on the 17th, Bernat Escuder extended her lead with birdies on Nos. 13 and 15. She secured the win with a two-putt on the closing hole, making history as the first Spanish woman to win at Augusta.

After sinking the winning putt, Bernat Escuder couldn’t contain her emotions. Tears of joy flowed as she embraced her caddie, and the patrons cheered her victory. She expressed her disbelief at winning and acknowledged the trailblazers before her, like Olazábal, who congratulated her on her victory. Bernat Escuder now joins the ranks of Spanish champions at Augusta, solidifying her legacy in golf history.

In conclusion, Carla Bernat Escuder’s victory at the 2025 Augusta National Women’s Amateur solidified Spain’s tradition of excellence at Augusta National. Overcoming the odds, she showcased her competitive spirit and inventive play to secure the historic win. As the first Spanish woman to win at Augusta, Bernat Escuder’s triumph will be remembered among the greats in golf history. Her emotional victory and acknowledgment of past champions highlight the significance of her accomplishment. In a sport with a rich history of champions, Bernat Escuder’s win adds another chapter to Spain’s legacy at Augusta National.
