Club pro Jason Caron had a near epic victory on the Champions Tour but ultimately lost in a playoff to Steven Alker. Despite his day job as Head Golf Professional at Mill River Club in Oyster Bay, N.Y., Caron also competes on the Champions Tour. He earned his Champions Tour card after a successful 10-tournament run last season and qualified for the Senior PGA. His recent performance at the Cologuard Classic in Tuscon, Ariz., where he tied for the lead with Alker after firing impressive rounds, showcased his talent among the legends of the game.

Caron’s final round at the Cologuard Classic featured birdies on the final three holes, securing the clubhouse lead over major winners like Ernie Els and Bernhard Langer. Despite not playing full-time professional golf since 2003, Caron was on the verge of a victory over accomplished players. However, Alker made a late surge to force a playoff, ultimately winning with a birdie on the first extra hole. Caron’s impressive performance earned him a week’s pay of $193,000, showcasing his talent and potential on the Champions Tour.

Caron’s journey to the Champions Tour is reminiscent of a Cinderella story, with his late-blooming success mirroring that of Alker. His transition from a club pro to competing on one of the most exclusive tours in the world highlights his dedication and skill as a golfer. Despite his dual roles as a head pro and tour pro, Caron has proven that he can compete at the highest level, showcasing his talent on the course.

The excitement of the playoff at the Cologuard Classic captured the attention of golf fans and players alike, with Caron’s near-victory a testament to his abilities as a golfer. His consistency and performance under pressure showcased his potential to succeed on the Champions Tour, earning the respect of his peers and fans. While the loss in the playoff was disappointing, Caron’s journey and achievements serve as inspiration for aspiring golfers and club pros looking to make their mark in the golfing world.

Overall, Caron’s performance at the Cologuard Classic was a highlight of the Champions Tour season, with his near-victory and playoff battle with Alker showcasing the competitive nature of the tour. His ability to balance his roles as a head pro and tour pro demonstrates his dedication and passion for the game, earning him recognition among the golfing community. With his talent and determination, Caron is poised for continued success on the Champions Tour, solidifying his position among the legends of the game.
