The 91st Sunningdale Foursomes concluded with a thrilling 1-up victory for David Corben and Harry Crockett over Monty Holcombe and Oscar Lent. Despite being two down with three holes to play, Corben and Crockett managed to make a comeback, with Corben’s near-perfect 8-iron shot on the 16th hole setting the stage for their victory. The match was all square going into the final hole, where Lent missed a crucial putt, allowing Corben to secure the win.

Corben, who plays out of Hindhead, expressed his emotions after the win, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and teamwork. He praised his playing partner, Crockett, for his exceptional performance throughout the tournament. The duo faced tough competition from Holcombe and Lent, who are both highly skilled players from Surrey. Despite the intense battle, Corben and Crockett emerged victorious, earning a place on the prestigious winners’ board.

Crockett, from Addington Palace, also reflected on the significance of winning the Sunningdale Foursomes, highlighting Corben’s clutch play in the closing holes. In the semi-final, Corben and Crockett defeated last year’s winners and favorites, Dylan Shaw-Radford and Harley Smith, while Lent and Holcombe overcame professionals Harry Walch and Angus Flanagan in their semi-final match.

The Sunningdale Foursomes featured a diverse array of participants, including former footballer Gareth Bale, who partnered with Matthew Wylie in the tournament. Despite exiting in the first round, Solheim Cup stars Charley Hull and Georgia Hall made an impressive run to the last 16 before being defeated by Tom Shadbolt and Ben Evans.

The finalists, Corben and Crockett, showcased their talents throughout the tournament, with Corben holding an impressive handicap of +3.4 and Crockett boasting a handicap of +5. Lent and Holcombe also proved to be formidable opponents, with Lent being part of the England Boys Squad and Holcombe winning the Peter Alliss Trophy in 2022. The event attracted a total of 128 pairs, with fans flocking to the iconic Berkshire venue to witness the action unfold.
