Chaska Town Course in Chaska, Minnesota holds a special place in the heart of PGA Tour winner Billy Horschel, who shot a course-record 60 nearly 20 years ago. Horschel recalls the excitement of needing an eagle on the final hole to shoot a 59, only to end up with a birdie after landing his ball in the water hazard. Despite believing he shot a 61, he was informed that he had indeed shot a 60, making it one of his most memorable rounds to date. The excitement of that round continues to be a topic of conversation around Chaska Town Course, especially with the 2024 U.S. Amateur returning to the area for stroke play.
Chaska Town Course, known for hosting major championships such as the U.S. Amateur, PGA Championships, and Ryder Cup, offers a unique golfing experience for both spectators and players. While tee times at the private Hazeltine are hard to come by, Chaska Town Course provides a top public golf course in the Twin Cities at an affordable price point. The Arthur Hills design of the course covers nearly 300 acres of marshland and prairies, offering a challenging yet enjoyable layout for golfers of all skill levels.
The course features a mix of scoring opportunities and quirks that test the skills of weekend golfers. From wide-open fairways to split-fairway par-4s with water hazards, Chaska Town Course provides a variety of challenges on each hole. The par-3s offer a chance to hit short irons, a refreshing change from the hybrid-dominated modern golf courses. The 11th hole, considered one of the toughest by regulars, presents a narrow fairway and a pond that will test even the most seasoned players.
As players navigate through the course, they encounter unique holes such as the semi-blind drive over the marsh on the 13th and the signature finisher on the 18th, where going left is not an option. While replicating Horschel’s record-breaking 60 may be a challenge, players can still enjoy a fun and exciting round of golf at Chaska Town Course. With its reputation as a top public golf course in Minnesota and its affordable rates, it attracts golfers looking for a challenging yet rewarding experience on the course.
Overall, Chaska Town Course offers a blend of history, challenge, and enjoyment for golfers of all levels. Its association with major championships and memorable rounds like Billy Horschel’s record-breaking 60 adds to its allure as a must-play course in the Twin Cities. Whether spectators are watching a championship event or players are testing their skills on the fairways, Chaska Town Course provides a well-rounded golfing experience that is both memorable and affordable. With its unique design, scenic views, and challenging layout, it remains a popular destination for golf enthusiasts in Minnesota.
