The men’s golf program at Eastern Washington University is set to make a return for the 2025-26 season after more than 20 years of being absent. The Eagles originally began playing in the 1960s in the NAIA before later moving to Division II in the 1980s. After a brief hiatus from 1982 to 1992, the program returned along with the addition of a women’s team, playing until the 2001-02 season. Now, the men’s team is making a comeback, much to the excitement of fans, alumni, and the university itself.

Tim Collins, the Director of Athletics at EWU, expressed the importance of sponsoring a sport that strengthens the university’s connection to the community and potential future students. With a focus on recruiting student-athletes from the Pacific Northwest region and reconnecting with golf alumni, they hope to rebuild the program alongside the women’s team, which has been active for 32 years. This reintroduction of the men’s golf program aligns with the university’s goal to provide opportunities for student-athletes and engage with the regional community.

Competing in regional tournaments that meet NCAA Division I sport sponsorship requirements, Eastern Washington is poised to make an impact on the collegiate golf scene once again. By reinstating the men’s golf program, the university is not only providing student-athletes with an opportunity to compete at the highest level but also creating a sense of pride and unity within the community. This move demonstrates EWU’s commitment to supporting a diverse range of sports programs and fostering a culture of academic and athletic excellence.

The return of the men’s golf program is a significant milestone for Eastern Washington University and its athletic department. With a rich history dating back to the 1960s, the program has played an integral role in the university’s sports legacy. By bringing back the men’s team, EWU is embracing its past while looking towards a promising future. This decision reflects the university’s dedication to providing well-rounded opportunities for student-athletes and strengthening its ties to the community.

As the Eagles prepare for their upcoming season, they have the opportunity to showcase their talent and compete against top collegiate golf programs. With a focus on recruiting local student-athletes and engaging with golf alumni, Eastern Washington is poised to build a competitive and successful team. The reinstatement of the men’s golf program will not only benefit the university but also the broader community, as it provides an avenue for student-athletes to pursue their passion for golf while representing EWU with pride and integrity.

In conclusion, the reinstatement of the men’s golf program at Eastern Washington University marks an exciting new chapter in the university’s sports history. With a renewed focus on engaging with the community and recruiting top talent from the Pacific Northwest region, the Eagles are poised for success in the upcoming season. By bringing back the men’s team after more than 20 years, EWU is reaffirming its commitment to providing diverse and competitive athletic opportunities for student-athletes. This decision highlights the university’s dedication to supporting sports programs that enrich the student experience and foster a culture of excellence both on and off the golf course.
