Paako Ridge Golf Club in New Mexico is a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts, offering an unparalleled golfing experience that will leave you wanting to plan a return visit. Ranked as the top public-access course in the state by Golfweek’s Best raters, this stunning layout boasts 27 holes set among the forested Sandia Park east of the Sandia Mountains. Designed by Ken Dye, the course opened in 2000 with 18 holes and now offers an 18-hole rate, a daily rate, and memberships for avid golfers. Conveniently located just a half-hour drive from Albuquerque, Paako Ridge Golf Club is a hidden gem that should not be missed.

The course features generous fairways, sloping greens, and plenty of elevation changes to keep the game interesting. Most of the holes are carved through oakwoods and pinon trees, with sloped lies that present a challenge to all skill levels. While the layout offers visually striking targets with its cross-cut fairways, golfers are advised to stay on the fairways to avoid losing their balls in the wooded areas. A morning tee time is recommended, followed by a bite to eat after nine holes, more play, and perhaps a snack and beverage break before heading back out for the final nine.

Each hole at Paako Ridge Golf Club presents a unique challenge, with water coming into play on several holes. The par-4 second hole requires a stout second shot over an arroyo and past bunkers guarding the green. The par-3 fourth hole features a massive green with four tiers, making precision crucial to score well. The fifth hole offers a blind tee shot for big hitters, leading to a challenging dogleg downhill approach. Water hazards add to the difficulty on the ninth, tenth, and 15th holes, providing a scenic backdrop for your round.

If you’re looking to refuel after a day on the course, the restaurant at Paako Ridge Golf Club offers a diverse menu featuring wild game such as smoked rattlesnake and rabbit sausage, as well as more traditional dishes like oysters, Korean BBQ chicken sandwich, and green chile cheeseburger. For dinner, diners can enjoy options like fried alligator, ribeye steak, and grilled elk rack. The restaurant’s expansive menu reflects the course itself, offering something for every taste and craving.

In conclusion, Paako Ridge Golf Club is a premier golf destination in New Mexico that exceeds expectations with its scenic views, challenging layout, and top-notch amenities. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or new to the game, this course offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you eager to return. From the well-maintained fairways to the stunning natural surroundings, Paako Ridge Golf Club is a must-play course for anyone seeking a memorable round of golf in the Land of Enchantment. Plan your visit to this hidden gem and discover why it’s the top-rated public-access course in the state.
