Callaway has officially released its new Opus line of wedges, with input from PGA TOUR players throughout the design process. The Tour launch, which occurred at the 2024 Travelers Championship, marks the first time the final versions of the wedges have been revealed to Tour players. The design of these wedges began two years ago, with meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of the club’s performance, shape, and feel.

The focus during the design process was on meeting the specific needs and preferences of Tour players. From the shape of the leading edge to how the club interacts with the turf at impact, every detail was carefully considered to ensure that the wedges met the highest standards of the best players in the world. One of the key factors that Tour players look for in a wedge is the initial shape and appearance at address, which can be a significant barrier to entry if not executed correctly.

The final versions of the Opus wedges are a result of countless hours of feedback and testing from Tour players. The shaping and roundness of the wedge were refined based on the feedback received during the prototyping stages. The Opus wedges went through several iterations before reaching the final design, with the sixth prototype serving as the basis for the current version. Each wedge on the PGA TOUR was stamped with “S6” to represent the shaping designs that were settled on based on player feedback.

The Tour-inspired and tour-driven design of the Opus wedges highlights the collaborative effort between Callaway and PGA TOUR players. The feedback and input from professional golfers were instrumental in shaping the final cosmetic and design of the wedges. With a focus on meeting the demands and preferences of elite players, the Opus wedges represent a new standard in wedge performance and design. Callaway’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with Tour players has led to the creation of a wedge that meets the highest standards of performance and quality.
