TaylorMade has released upgraded versions of its P770 and P7CB irons, drawing on tour feedback and refining previous designs. The 2024 line includes new cavity back P7CB irons, emphasizing feel, feedback, and shotmaking. The P-Series family now consists of the P7TW, P7CB, P770, and P790 irons, offering options for different player preferences and skill levels.

The P7CB irons are designed as “players irons” with traditional forgiveness, low launch, and high spin. The irons are crafted from 1025 carbon steel using Compact Grain Forging and precise mass placement for optimum feel and performance. The P7CB lineup features a consistent center of gravity for precise launch and spin control, as well as milled faces and grooves for enhanced consistency.

On the other hand, the P770 irons are described as “modern players irons” offering mid-high forgiveness, launch, and spin, with a speed boost in the long irons. TaylorMade has optimized the feel and performance of the P770 irons through modal analysis and refined mass placement and tungsten weighting. The irons feature a compact look at address, a thin topline, and progressive bounce for optimal turf interaction.

TaylorMade’s Global Category Director for Irons and Wedges, Matt Bovee, highlights the improvements in feel and forgiveness in the new P770 irons, making them the most forgiving and best feeling P770 irons to date. The P7CB irons, designed for better players, offer a combination of feel and forgiveness in a compact head shape, based on direct feedback from tour pros.

Club Junkie’s review of the P770 irons praises their updated shape with reduced offset and a straighter leading edge, maintaining the classic thin topline. The irons offer a combination of distance, forgiveness, and soft feel on the course, with consistent performance and manageable launch characteristics. The P7CB irons are commended for their minimal offset, thin topline, milled cavity, and solid feel, providing precise distances and a penetrating ball flight for better players.

On the PGA Tour, TaylorMade has generated excitement around the P7CB irons with several notable players, including Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa, choosing to play the Proto version. The irons have received positive feedback for their high launch, minimal offset, and reminiscent feel of past TaylorMade models. The retail release of the P7CB irons has been well-received, with interest from both pros and amateur players alike.

Overall, the upgraded P770 and P7CB irons offer a blend of performance, forgiveness, and feel for different player preferences. With refined designs, optimized features, and positive feedback from tour pros, TaylorMade continues to deliver high-quality irons for golfers of all skill levels. The availability of both iron models at retail signals a positive response from the market, with players eager to experience the performance and technology offered by TaylorMade.
