South Korea’s Jiyai Shin emerged victorious at the 2024 Women’s Australian Open, securing her 65th worldwide title with a two-stroke win over South Africa’s Ashleigh Buhai. Shin carded a final-round three-under 70 at Kingston Heath to claim her second triumph at this event, successfully preventing Buhai from winning three years in a row. The South African put up a strong fight, finishing eight strokes ahead of Korean amateur, Hyojin Yang, who placed third.

Former World No.1, Jiyai Shin expressed her joy at winning the prestigious tournament once again, stating, “I can see my name here on the trophy, so I can put in my name, the next one. It’s so gorgeous.” However, it was a disappointing outing for Australian golfer Hannah Green, who failed to secure her first Australian Open crown. Green, who was two strokes behind the leader after round three, struggled on the final day, finishing in a share of fourth place with a six-over 79.

The turning point of the tournament came early on when Jiyai Shin made an extraordinary eagle on the fourth hole, extending her lead over Hannah Green. Despite Green’s efforts to bounce back, she was unable to recover from the setback, admitting that it affected her mentally. Shin continued to dominate, making birdies and building a comfortable lead, while Green struggled on the back nine, culminating in a triple-bogey on the seventh hole.

Although Ashleigh Buhai mounted a late challenge with a string of birdies, it was not enough to catch Shin, who remained steady and sealed the victory with a solid performance. Buhai’s final birdie putt on the 18th hole narrowly missed, giving Shin the opportunity to clinch the win with two putts. With this triumph, Shin added another impressive title to her illustrious career, solidifying her status as one of the most successful Korean golfers in history.

The 2024 Women’s Australian Open showcased intense competition and gripping moments, with Shin emerging as the deserving champion. Despite facing tough challenges from her opponents, Shin’s exceptional skill and composure allowed her to excel under pressure and secure the victory. The tournament also highlighted the resilience and determination of players like Ashleigh Buhai and Hannah Green, who fought hard until the end but ultimately fell short of the title.

The electrifying atmosphere at Kingston Heath during the Women’s Australian Open captured the essence of competitive golf, as players showcased their talent and perseverance throughout the event. Jiyai Shin’s remarkable performance and strategic play were key factors in her success, as she navigated the challenging course and maintained her focus under critical moments. As the 2024 champion, Shin’s victory will be remembered as a testament to her skill, determination, and unwavering spirit on the golf course.
