Justin Rose came incredibly close to winning the Masters in 2025, starting Sunday’s final round at Augusta National eight shots back of Rory McIlroy. Rose went on a back-nine birdie run, carding 10 birdies in his final round, including a clutch 20-footer on 18 to force a sudden-death playoff with McIlroy. However, McIlroy ultimately secured the win and his career Grand Slam with a birdie putt on the first playoff hole. Rose’s second-place finish marked his third runner-up finish at the Masters in 11 years and his second consecutive major where he finished in second place.

Rose expressed mixed emotions following the defeat, noting the outpouring of support and positive comments he received while also feeling tormented by the thought of what might have been. Despite the loss, Rose remains confident in his ability to chase greatness in the game of golf. At 44 years old, Rose believes he still has the fire and belief to achieve special moments on the course, even as he acknowledges that his career is nearing its twilight. While he had no regrets about his performance at the Masters, Rose is left with yet another what-if to ponder as he continues to pursue major championship victories.

Having previously battled back injuries and poor form earlier in his career, Rose’s resurgence in recent years has been marked by key victories and significant performances on the PGA Tour, including a win at the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and a strong showing at the 2023 Ryder Cup. Despite falling short in major championships, Rose’s determination and belief in his ability to achieve success on the biggest stages remain unwavering. He continues to work hard and push himself in the pursuit of capturing more memorable moments in his golfing career.

Rose’s near-miss at the Masters in 2025 adds to a list of close calls in major championships, including his playoff loss to Sergio Garcia at the 2017 Masters. Despite the heartbreak of coming up short in pivotal moments, Rose remains focused on moving forward and striving for future victories. His mental fortitude and ability to perform under pressure have been evident in his recent performances, with Rose noting that he feels calm and ready for the challenge when the stakes are highest. As he continues to chase major championship success, Rose’s determination and commitment to his craft are as strong as ever.

The scars of defeat may not easily heal for Justin Rose, but they serve as reminders of the resilience and determination that have defined his career. With a strong support system and a belief in his ability to achieve greatness, Rose remains focused on the next challenge and the opportunities that lie ahead. As he reflects on his near-miss at the Masters and looks towards future tournaments, Rose’s passion for the game and desire to hoist major championship trophies continue to drive him forward. While the road to victory may be fraught with challenges and setbacks, Rose’s unwavering commitment to his craft sets him apart as a competitor who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
