LIV Golf vs. PGA Tour: The 2025 PGA Championship Breakdown

Hey there, golf fans! So, the Masters just wrapped up, and it’s time to dive into the showdown between LIV golfers and PGA Tour players at the 2025 PGA Championship. There were 14 LIV players in the field, but just like we saw at Augusta, they didn’t exactly steal the spotlight. Let’s break down what went down at Quail Hollow and see how everyone stacked up.

The Scottie Scheffler Show

First off, can we just give a shout-out to Scottie Scheffler? This guy put on a masterclass performance, claiming his third major victory. He’s clearly in a league of his own right now, with everyone else—whether they’re from LIV or the PGA—trailing behind. So while the LIV guys made an appearance, it was all about Scheffler taking center stage.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Now, numbers can tell some pretty interesting stories, so let’s take a closer look at how the groups performed. Check this out:

GroupPlayers in FieldMade Cut% Made CutTotal WinningsBest Finish
LIV Golf14857.1 %$2,523,278Bryson DeChambeau – T2 (-6)
PGA Tour / Other1426646.5 %$16,229,251Scottie Scheffler – 1st (-11)

Looks like LIV golfers made the cut slightly better, but that’s about where the good news ends for them.

Scheffler’s Wallet vs. LIV’s Payout

Let’s talk cash. Scheffler’s winner’s check was a whopping $3.42 million, which is almost more than the total winnings for all the LIV players combined! While LIV golfers are known for raking in the dough, it seems PGA’s major tournaments still reign supreme when it comes to the big bucks.

LIV Shows Up, but the PGA Takes the Cake

Now, when it came to the top 10 finishes, it definitely leaned toward the PGA Tour. Out of the 17 players (thanks to some ties), 14 were PGA regulars. LIV managed to place three guys in that mix: Bryson DeChambeau (T2), Jon Rahm (T8), and Joaquin Niemann (T8). Not a bad showing, but not enough to claim the bragging rights either.

Weekend Warriors: LIV vs. PGA

More than half of the LIV gang actually made it through to the weekend, which was decent! Eight out of the 14 made the cut, giving them a better percentage than the PGA Tour players. Still, there were some big names who didn’t even make it to Saturday, including Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka—yikes!

Bryson and Rahm: Almost…

Bryson DeChambeau has been a force in the majors, and he showed it again with that strong T2 finish. Jon Rahm, on the other hand, had a tough Sunday; he was in contention but fizzled out at the end. It’ll be cool to see how these guys perform leading into the U.S. Open next month.

The Thrill of the Competition

We don’t get to see these head-to-head duels between LIV and PGA Tour players often. That’s what makes major tournaments like the PGA Championship so exciting! The competition at Quail Hollow showcased the dominance of PGA Tour loyalists, who walked away with the trophy, the big prize money, and a majority of the top spots.

LIV’s Bright Spot

LIV had its moments, of course. Bryson’s impressive runner-up finish is certainly commendable, but let’s be honest: it wasn’t enough to overshadow Scheffler’s incredible performance. The scorecard reads loud and clear: PGA Tour 1, LIV 0.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, golf fans are all about watching the best of the best. The 2025 PGA Championship gave us a glimpse into the rivalry between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, and right now, it’s clear who’s calling the shots. As we gear up for future tournaments, keep an eye on both circuits because you never know what might happen next!

So there you have it—a laid-back, yet detailed dive into the 2025 PGA Championship! As always, keep swinging those clubs, and may your putts be short and your drives long!
