After Lydia Ko’s emotional victory at the Olympics, where she won the gold medal and secured her spot in the LPGA Hall of Fame, the Kiwi golfer found herself questioning the reality of her success. She struggled to sleep as she traveled to Scotland for the Women’s Scottish Open, still in disbelief that her dream had come true. Even after waking up on Sunday morning, she wondered if it was all just a dream.

The impact of her victory was evident as she recalled the emotional moments with her sister and hearing the New Zealand national anthem played during the medal ceremony. LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan personally welcomed Ko to the Hall of Fame, showing the significance of her achievement. Messages of support from fellow Hall of Famers and fans further reinforced the magnitude of her accomplishment.

Despite initially joking that she wouldn’t play in her next event after winning the gold medal, Ko’s perspective changed when asked about her next goal. She announced that she aims to win another major, which would be her first in eight years since the 2016 ANA Inspiration. Ko’s drive to continue competing at the highest level is evident as she seeks to build on her success in Paris.

While Ko had previously hinted at retiring after reaching the Hall of Fame, she now sees herself playing beyond this season. She wants to focus on achieving her goal of winning another major before considering her future in the sport. Her competitive spirit and determination to continue improving suggest that she may have more success ahead in her career.

As she prepares for the Women’s Open at St. Andrews’ Old Course, Ko remains focused on honing her skills and gaining valuable experience on links-style courses. Winning a major championship is still at the top of her list of aspirations, and she is determined to make it happen before she considers stepping away from competitive golf. The next chapter of her career will likely involve setting new goals and pushing herself to new heights in the sport she loves.
