If you struggle with hitting high bunker shots with spin, Jonathan Yarwood has some secrets to share. Most recreational players struggle to get the ball out of the sand, let alone getting it close to the pin. Lack of practice and incorrect technique are the main reasons for this struggle. While we can’t help you with the practice element, we can provide you with some tips on technique that can improve your bunker shots.

When it comes to hitting high bunker shots with spin, the key is to have the proper equipment and technique. Start by using a fresh golf ball that is designed to spin, and make sure your clubface is clean and free of debris. This will allow you to create enough friction to generate spin on the ball. Setting up to the ball with an open stance, placing the ball in the front part of your stance, and getting your weight forward are important aspects of the setup.

During the swing, make a full backswing and then slow the handle down near impact. This will allow you to release your right hand, causing the clubhead to skid underneath the ball through the sand. This move creates a lot of friction and spin, getting the ball up in the air and stopping it quickly on the green. Practice this shot to get comfortable with the technique and be prepared for your next bunker shot.

It’s important to commit to the shot and trust the technique when hitting high bunker shots with spin. By following Jonathan Yarwood’s tips and practicing the technique, you can improve your bunker play and get the ball closer to the pin. Remember to focus on having the proper equipment, setting up correctly, and making the right swing motion to achieve the desired result. With dedication and practice, you can master the high bunker shot with spin and impress your playing partners on the course.
