Callaway has recently released the new Opus and Opus Platinum wedges, designed for golfers who want to maximize spin and short game versatility. The Opus wedges feature a new Spin Gen Face technology that increases surface roughness and friction, along with more grooves on the face to improve spin rates. The Opus Platinum wedges are manufactured using metal-injection molding (MIM) for enhanced accuracy in shape and dampening vibrations at impact, resulting in a softer feel. Both wedges come in various loft options and sole grind configurations to suit different playing conditions, making them a versatile option for golfers.

The Opus wedges were used by several professional golfers, including Xander Schauffele, Yuka Saso, Jon Rahm, and Rose Zhang, before their official release. The development process involved using prototypes disguised as JAWS Raw wedges to gather feedback from tour players and refine the design. The Opus wedges boast about 500-1200 rpm more spin on shots from the rough compared to previous Callaway models, providing a more consistent spin rate across different conditions. Additionally, the wedges feature angled microgrooves on the face for added spin generation when opening the clubface on greenside shots.

The Opus wedges come in four sole grind options, including the all-purpose S Grind, the wide-sole W Grind, the lob-wedge-only C Grind, and the shallow divot-friendly T Grind. These sole grinds are designed to cater to various playing styles and turf conditions, offering golfers the versatility to tackle different situations on the course. The Opus Platinum wedges, on the other hand, feature a tungsten weight bonded to the topline for a higher center of gravity and lower launch on shots.

Both the Opus and Opus Platinum wedges are equipped with True Temper Dynamic Gold Mid 115 Wedge shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips for optimal performance and feel. The Opus Platinum wedges also offer a wide, low-bounce Z Grind with pre-worn leading edge for added versatility around the greens. Golfers looking for premium wedges with enhanced spin, feel, and playability can consider the Opus and Opus Platinum models as top options in the market.
