Rory McIlroy’s victory at Augusta National on Sunday was all the talk of the sports world as the Irishman won his fifth major and completed a career grand slam.

Golf fans from around the world celebrated as McIlroy at long last overcame his demons to win The Masters and cap off a feat only six other people have accomplished: the career grand slam.

As fans raced to social media to commemorate the monumental achievement, golf influencer Paige Spiranac decided to join in on the fun.

The former women’s college golfer and current content creator took to X, formerly Twitter, to inform her fans that she had been backing McIlroy the whole time.

‘Not to make this about myself but I did pick Rory to win,’ Spiranac said on the platform.

She added, ‘Starting the major season off right.’

It’s a bit odd saying ‘not to make this about myself’ before celebrating the fact that you correctly guessed the odds’ second-favorite would win the tournament.

But Spiranac’s joy comes at the same time most of the golf world felt the same.

McIlroy’s crowning achievement ended a major championship drought of over a decade and saw him finally win at a course he’d been so close to conquering in the past.

The native of County Down had seven top-ten finishes at Augusta National in his career – including four top-five finishes.

Most recently of those was a runner-up finish in 2022 after a miraculous hole-out from the bunker on the 18th hole. He still ended the tournament three-shots back of winner Scottie Scheffler.

Sunday finally marked his triumph over the course and the culmination of a career’s work.

The playoff victory over Englishman Justin Rose secured his fifth major title and led to congratulations from many.

While his best friend Shane Lowry greeted him with a hug as he walked to the clubhouse to sign his card, US President Donald Trump posted a message congratulating McIlroy on winning his ‘favorite sporting show’.

Tiger Woods, McIlroy’s longtime friend, business partner, and occasional competitive rival, also tweeted out his congratulations.

Rose was ever graceful in the defeat to his Ryder Cup teammate, telling McIlroy after the tournament was sealed this was ‘a historic moment in golf. It’s pretty cool to share that moment with him.’

Nike, McIlroy’s longtime apparel sponsor, released a brand-new commercial to celebrate the win as well.

After this win, its possible that 2025 could bring more majors for McIlroy.

Next up is the PGA Championship – held this year at the Quail Hollow Club outside Charlotte, North Carolina.

That course is typically the host of the Truist Championship (formerly the Wells Fargo Championship), an event that McIlroy has won four times in his career and was the site of his first ever PGA Tour victory.

Following a trip to western Pennsylvania’s Oakmont Country Club for the US Open (a course he missed the cut at during the last major held there in 2018), McIlroy heads home for the Open Championship.

This year, the Open will be held at Royal Portrush in County Antrim – located just to the north of McIlroy’s home county on the Emerald Isle.
