The 43rd Curtis Cup is set to kick off at Sunningdale Golf Club, with the opening ceremony on August 29, followed by three days of competitive action from August 30 to September 1. The format of the matches sees eight female amateurs from Great Britain & Ireland competing against their counterparts from the USA. Each of the first two competition days features three foursomes and three four-ball matches, with eight singles matches taking place on Sunday. Points are awarded for victories, with the USA needing 10 points to retain the Cup and GB&I requiring 10.5 points to reclaim it.

In 2022, the USA handed out a heavy 15.5-4.5 defeat to GB&I, making them strong favorites to lift the title again this year. Of the 42 matches played to date, the USA has won 31 times, GB&I has won 8, and three matches have been tied. Farnham GC’s Lottie Woad will be a key player for GB&I in this week’s Curtis Cup, captained by Catriona Matthew. Woad, current women’s world amateur no.1, is looking forward to competing at Sunningdale, a course she is familiar with and loves.

The home side also includes Mimi and Patience Rhodes, the first sisters to compete in the same match since Leona and Lisa Maguire in 2010. Patience expresses her excitement at being able to play with her sister in the Curtis Cup, a dream come true for both of them. The teams are lined up with players such as Sara Byrne, Beth Coulter, Hannah Darling, Aine Donegan, Lorna McClymont, Euphemie Rhodes, Patience Rhodes, and Lottie Woad for GB&I, and Zoe Campos, Anna Davis, Rachel Kuehn, Asterisk Talley, Catherine Park, Jasmine Koo, Melanie Green, and Megan Schofill for the USA.

Tickets to watch the 43rd Curtis Cup can be purchased at Sunningdale on the day of the event, with walk-up prices at the gate being £25 for adults, 50% off for youths, and free for under-16s. The entire event will be screened live on Sky Sports from August 30 to September 1. The Curtis Cup is a prestigious event that showcases some of the top female amateur golfers from both Great Britain & Ireland and the United States, competing in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere. Supporters can look forward to three days of thrilling golf action at one of the most iconic golf clubs in the UK.

With the USA being the defending champions, the pressure is on GB&I to reclaim the Cup on home soil. The event promises to be a celebration of talent, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among these young amateur golfers. The Curtis Cup is a highlight in the amateur golf calendar, attracting fans from all over the world to witness the future stars of women’s golf in action. The players, including Lottie Woad, are eager to showcase their skills and compete against the best in the world. Stay tuned to Sky Sports for live coverage of the event and witness the drama unfold as these talented amateurs battle it out for victory in the 43rd Curtis Cup.
