Adams Golf Course in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, is set to undergo a $2.4 million renovation as part of the Greens Rebuild Project, the largest investment in the course since its establishment in 1963. The project, funded through a General Obligation Bond, will include replacement of all 18 greens, the nursery, chipping and putting greens, as well as upgrades to the drainage and irrigation systems. The renovation is expected to be completed by late spring or early summer 2025.

The closure of the golf course on Nov. 1 coincides with changes in leadership, with long-time Golf Professional Jerry Benedict retiring last August. Class A PGA Professional Jason Dochney has stepped in as interim director, following the city council’s decision to purchase Benedict’s business assets for approximately $150,000. All memberships, including cart, range, and greens, will expire on Oct. 31, 2024, with prorated refunds to be issued by Dec. 1, 2024.

While the pro shop and locker room will close on Nov. 1, access to the driving range will remain open, with the ball disperser accepting credit and debit cards. The Greens Rebuild Project is part of the city’s efforts to modernize and sustain Adams Golf Course, deemed a key community asset by city leaders. The course not only provides recreational opportunities but also hosts fundraisers that generate over $1 million annually for local charities.

Despite operating at a loss, city officials emphasize the importance of Adams Golf Course to both residents and visitors, contributing to local economic development and overall quality of life. The closure and renovation mark a fresh start for the course, with the project aiming to enhance the overall experience for golfers and attract new players. The completion of the Greens Rebuild Project is expected to further solidify the golf course’s reputation as a premier destination for players of all skill levels.

As the community eagerly anticipates the completion of the renovation, residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the final opportunities to enjoy the course before the closure on Nov. 1. The city’s investment in Adams Golf Course reflects a commitment to preserving and enhancing the facility for future generations to enjoy. Golf enthusiasts can look forward to a revitalized course that promises to provide a top-notch golfing experience in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, for years to come.
