The 2024 Open Championship is quickly approaching, and almost 2,000 amateur and professional golfers recently participated in Regional Qualifying events, with just 100 players advancing to Final Qualifying on July 2. This year, there were 15 Regional Qualifiers held around the country, with events in locations such as Rochester & Cobham, Moor Park, Bearwood Lakes, Ferndown, and North Hants.

At the Rochester & Cobham event, Royal Blackheath’s Freddie Price led the field with an impressive eight-under-par 63. He was followed by Max Orrin and Josh Bristow, with other notable players including Robin Wells and Warren Wood. The competition was fierce, with a play-off needed to determine the final two qualifiers, with Jonathan Exon-Taylor and Nicholas Olson ultimately securing their spots.

Moor Park saw a standout performance from Sweden’s Adam Wallin, who equaled the course record with a 63. He was joined by players from around the world, including American duo Nick Carlson and Ted Dougherty, England’s Nick Woof and Matt Gauntlett, and South Africa’s Justin Harding. At Ferndown, Corey Sheppard and Dominic Knight set the pace at five-under, with Luke Metcalf, Billy McKenzie, and Timon Baltl close behind.

Final Qualifying saw impressive performances from players like Stephen Ferreira and Julian Perico, who led the pack at Bearwood Lakes. The competition was tight at venues such as Caldy, County Louth, and Frilford Heath, with players like George Holland, Jack Madden, and Timothy Shin securing their spots at Final Qualifying.

The stakes were high at Final Qualifying, with a minimum of 16 players set to earn a place at Royal Troon for the 152nd Open Championship. With venues such as West Lancashire, Dundonald Links, Burnham & Berrow, and Royal Cinque Ports hosting the event, players are gearing up for a challenging and exciting competition. The competition promises to be intense, with players from around the world vying for a chance to compete in one of golf’s most prestigious events.
