Review of Callaway Apex Ai300 Irons

The Apex franchise has been a long-standing and successful one for Callaway Golf, with the 2024 MB, CB, and Pro models testing well earlier this year. In this review, we will be looking at the new Apex Ai300 irons to see how they stack up against the best irons of 2024. Callaway is offering a forged hollow body combined with a forged 455 face, strategically positioned MIM weighting, and a dynamic sole design to ensure enhanced turf interaction and provide more forgiveness through the ground. With a 7-iron loft of 29˚, the Ai300 is a distance-orientated iron that aims to rival some of the best game-improvement irons in the game.

Visually, the Apex Ai300 looks sophisticated and premium, with game improvement characteristics in the playing position. The offset is predominant, and the top edge indicates a good amount of mass to work with. The entire Apex family offers cohesion in terms of aesthetics, making it difficult to distinguish between different iron models. Performance-wise, the Ai300 compares well to other game improvement irons like the Ping G730 or TaylorMade Qi, offering strong distance output and a lively feel at impact. The easy launch and smooth turf interaction make it a solid choice for players of all levels.

During testing, a left bias was observed, possibly due to the significant amount of offset in the club. This feature may benefit high-handicap players who struggle with a right miss. The Ai300 irons seem to bridge the gap between the Apex Pro and Ai Smoke models, offering game improvement performance with a sophisticated look. This makes them a great choice for players looking to upgrade their set. Combining the Ai300 with the Ai200 model could create a balanced combo set for those who prefer a neater look in the short irons.

The Apex Ai300 irons are priced at $1400/£1199 for a 7-piece set, including irons from 4 to A wedge. The stock steel shaft option is the Dynamic Gold True Temper Mid 100, while the graphite option is the UST Recoil Dart 80. The stock grip is a Golf Pride Z-Grip. Overall, the Apex Ai300 irons offer a blend of performance, forgiveness, and aesthetic appeal that make them a strong contender in the 2024 iron market. Whether you are a high-handicap player looking for distance and forgiveness or a mid-handicap player seeking a game improvement option with a premium look, the Apex Ai300 is worth considering.
