Sedge Valley, the fifth course at Sand Valley in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, offers a unique golfing experience with its par of 68 and strategic layout. The course provides a more intimate round of golf compared to its siblings, Mammoth Dunes and Sand Valley. Designed by architect Tom Doak, Sedge Valley is inspired by the heathland courses in England, featuring a rich green landscape with sand accents.

The practice facilities at Sedge Valley are shared with the other Sand Valley courses and include a driving range and short game area. The course also offers caddies as an essential part of the golfing experience, providing valuable guidance on tee shots and reads on the greens. The new addition of The Gallery restaurant at Sedge Valley adds to the amenities at Sand Valley, offering Italian cuisine and panoramic views of the golf course and tennis courts.

Tee shots at Sedge Valley present challenges and strategic decisions, with wide fairways and varying hole lengths that cater to different player strengths. Precise tee shots can set up advantageous approaches to the greens, which feature moderate undulations and firm, fast conditions. Tom Doak’s design at Sedge Valley encourages thoughtful play and requires players to navigate undulating fairways and strategic obstacles.

Approach shots at Sedge Valley demand precision and creativity, with a variety of lies and challenges around the greens. The smaller green sizes add complexity to putting, emphasizing line and touch over distance. The surrounds at Sedge Valley are mostly puttable with occasional patches of rough, providing unique challenges for short game skills.

Overall, Sedge Valley offers a subtle and challenging golfing experience that rewards thoughtful play and skill. With its intimate green sites and strategic design, the course provides an enjoyable and replayable round of golf for players of all skill levels. The course’s beauty and natural features, combined with its firm and fast conditions, make it a standout addition to the Sand Valley resort.

Favorite holes at Sedge Valley include the short par 4 at #6 and the challenging par 3 at #5, each offering unique strategic decisions and memorable golfing experiences. The finishing hole at Sedge Valley, #18, provides a memorable conclusion to a round, with options for varying tee shots and a punchbowl-style green surround.

In conclusion, Sedge Valley at Sand Valley Golf Resort offers an exceptional golfing experience that captures the essence of traditional links golf with a modern twist. With its strategic layout, stunning scenery, and top-notch amenities, Sedge Valley is a must-play course for golf enthusiasts looking for a memorable round in the Midwest. Whether you’re a scratch golfer or a casual player, Sedge Valley promises a challenging and rewarding golfing experience that will leave you wanting to come back for more.
