The U.S. Senior Open at Newport Country Club is a special event for players who hold USGA titles, such as Brett Quigley, who won the 1987 U.S. Junior Amateur. Quigley, a Rhode Island native, is looking forward to the support of his home state as he competes in the tournament. Despite not having a home-course advantage at the Newport Country Club, Quigley has been mentally preparing for the event over the last few years by playing practice rounds at the course.

Growing up in Rhode Island, Quigley honed his golf skills at the Rhode Island Country Club and helped out at Crestwood Country Club where his uncle was the head pro. Although Quigley is accustomed to the local golf scene, he acknowledges that the windy conditions at Newport Country Club will present a significant challenge for players during the tournament. The constantly changing wind direction will require players to adapt their strategies day by day.

Quigley is excited about the challenge posed by the weather conditions and course setup, as it will test his skills and decision-making abilities. Despite a mixed start to the major season this year, Quigley’s recent performances in major tournaments have given him confidence heading into the U.S. Senior Open. He is determined to put on a strong showing and potentially secure the biggest win of his professional playing career.

The lush green fairways and firm rough at Newport Country Club, a result of spring rain, will add another layer of complexity to the tournament. Players will need to adjust their approach shots and rely on their golfing instincts rather than precise target golf. Quigley is looking forward to showcasing his talents on a course that he enjoys playing and considers challenging yet fair.

The support from the local community and the positive vibes from fans in Rhode Island will fuel Quigley’s performance throughout the tournament. With the entire state backing him and fellow Rhode Islander Billy Andrade, Quigley hopes to make a mark in U.S. Senior Open history. While he may not have a traditional home-course advantage, the familiarity with the course and the anticipation of competing in front of his hometown crowd will give Quigley the motivation he needs to excel on the big stage.

In conclusion, Brett Quigley’s journey to the U.S. Senior Open at Newport Country Club is a testament to his dedication to the sport and his roots in Rhode Island. As he navigates the challenges of the tournament, Quigley remains focused on delivering a top-notch performance and making his state proud. With the support of his community behind him, Quigley is poised to shine in one of the most prestigious events in senior golf.
