Breaking 100 in golf is a common goal for many beginners, as it serves as a measurement of progress since starting to play the game. Achieving this scoring milestone takes effort, patience, and dedication to improving fundamentals such as grip, setup, and contact consistency. Players who are able to master these aspects of the game can then focus on scoring lower and reaching new milestones on the course.

One golfer, Nikki, was determined to break 100 and sought the help of GOLF Top 100 Teacher Ed Oldham to achieve her goal. Starting with a 33-handicap and an average score of 105, Nikki worked diligently with Oldham to improve her game and reach new heights of success on the course. Through consistent lessons and practice, Nikki was able to lower her scores significantly, with her career round reaching an impressive 87 earlier this year. This remarkable improvement showcases the power of working with a top teacher to enhance your skills and achieve your goals in golf.

To help Nikki improve her game, Oldham focused on correcting flaws in her swing that were leading to lost strokes during each round. By referencing information from Mark Broadie’s book “Every Shot Counts,” Oldham helped Nikki identify areas of improvement in her game that were costing her strokes on the course. Through targeted drills and focused practice, Nikki was able to address these issues and improve her clubface control, contact consistency, and overall ball-striking ability.

One key aspect of Nikki’s improvement was focusing on hitting the ball first and then the ground at impact, ensuring solid contact and optimal ball flight. Oldham implemented drills such as the Goldilocks drill and the tee drill to help Nikki develop a consistent swing and improve her ability to control the clubface. These drills provided immediate feedback and allowed Nikki to make adjustments to her swing technique, leading to better results on the course.

By incorporating drills like the around-the-world divot drill and the variable clubface practice, Nikki was able to refine her ball-striking ability and improve her overall consistency on the course. These drills helped her develop a more reliable swing and enhance her control over the clubface, leading to lower scores and more confidence on the course. With just five lessons with Oldham, Nikki was able to break 100 for the first time and achieve her goal of regularly shooting in the low 90s.

Overall, Nikki’s journey from a 33-handicap to breaking 100 and beyond serves as a testament to the power of working with a top teacher and committing to improving your game through focused practice and targeted drills. By focusing on key areas of improvement such as clubface control, contact consistency, and ball-striking ability, golfers can make significant gains in their game and achieve their scoring goals on the course. With dedication, patience, and expert guidance, breaking 100 in golf is within reach for players of all skill levels.
