Avoda Golf, a relatively unknown company, gained notoriety when Bryson DeChambeau used their 3D-printed irons to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst in 2024. The irons featured a flight-correctional “bulge” on the faces, which intrigued the equipment world. Thomas Bailey, the founder of Avoda Golf, revealed that the company started with the goal of creating a set of golf clubs for himself. With the help of Bryson’s coach, Mike Schy, Bailey was able to develop a prototype set of irons that met his specifications and ultimately caught Bryson’s attention.

The design process involved experimenting with different head weights, appearances, and face curvatures. Bryson’s preference for thicker top lines, wide faces, and hollow-body construction led to the creation of a unique set of irons tailored to his specific needs. The success of the prototype set led to the production of a limited number of consumer sets, including a combo-length and same-length option. The consumer sets feature flat faces and focus on customization and fitting options to enhance performance for golfers of varying skill levels.

The use of 3D printing technology allowed for rapid prototyping of the irons, providing the flexibility needed to make design adjustments quickly. The consumer sets offered by Avoda Golf are flat-faced and traditional in construction, emphasizing customized fitting to optimize performance. The success of Bryson DeChambeau’s U.S. Open victory with the Avoda irons sparked widespread interest in the brand, leading to a surge in demand for their products. Avoda Golf is focused on expanding its reach through custom fitting centers to provide golfers with the opportunity to test and experience their products firsthand.

The unique design features of Bryson’s irons, such as progressive bulge from the 5-iron to the pitching wedge, are tailored specifically to his swing characteristics and club preferences. While the consumer sets do not replicate these specific design elements, they offer a blend of benefits from variable-length and same-length clubs, catering to a broader audience of golfers. Avoda Golf’s growth has been accelerated by Bryson’s endorsement and success on the PGA Tour, positioning the company for rapid expansion in the golf equipment market. The focus on custom fitting and personalized service aims to enhance the overall experience for golfers looking to improve their game with high-quality equipment tailored to their individual needs.
