Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both failed to make the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship, with Mickelson missing out on a chance to break a record. Mickelson tied Jack Nicklaus and Raymond Floyd for players who have made 27 cuts in the PGA Championship by finishing in 58th place last year. Mickelson’s four-over-par total missed the cut by five shots after shooting a 74 and a one-over 72. On the other hand, Woods closed the first round with a 72 and started Round 2 poorly, going seven over par in the first three holes. He finished with a 77 and missed the cut by eight shots, continuing his streak of not making the cut in the PGA Championship since 2020.

The cut for the 2024 PGA Championship fell at a historic low of one-under-par 141, the lowest in the tournament’s history, after the completion of the second round on Saturday morning. Xander Schauffele leads the tournament at 12 under par, followed closely by Collin Morikawa at 11 under and Scottie Scheffler at 9 under. Jon Rahm also missed the cut by a shot, marking his first missed cut in a major championship since the 2019 PGA Championship. Despite finishing inside the top 10 in all seven LIV Golf events this year, Rahm has yet to win a tournament.

In addition to Mickelson, Woods, and Rahm, other notable players missing the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship include Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark, and Michael Block. Aberg missed the cut by one shot, Clark missed by five shots, and Block missed by eight shots. The competitive field and challenging course conditions proved difficult for many players, resulting in unexpected outcomes for some of the top contenders.

Overall, the 2024 PGA Championship saw surprising results with top players like Mickelson, Woods, and Rahm failing to make the cut. The record-low cut score of one-under-par highlighted the difficulty of the tournament and the competitive nature of the field. As the tournament continues with Schauffele in the lead, fans can expect even more excitement and drama in the remaining rounds. The unexpected outcomes and challenges faced by top players only add to the intrigue and excitement of major championship golf, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the sport.
