Tyrrell Hatton Makes DP World Tour Return at British Masters with LIV Golf

Tyrrell Hatton, a professional golfer, will be making his first DP World Tour start since signing with the LIV Golf League back in January at the Betfred British Masters this week. He last played in a DP World Tour event at the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year before switching to Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII on the PIF-funded circuit. Hatton has had a successful debut campaign with LIV, currently sitting third in the individual standings and fifth on the money list with $10.6 million earned from 12 events. His Legion XI GC team is also second in the team standings with two events left on the calendar.

In terms of Majors, Hatton had a mixed bag of results in 2024, with a T9th finish at The Masters and a T26th finish at the US Open. He also struggled at the PGA Championship and missed the cut at The Open Championship. His upcoming start at the DP World Tour at The Belfry in England will allow him to compete as an active member, as he did not resign his membership when he left for LIV. However, he may face sanctions from the DP World Tour when he plays in LIV events that coincide with DP World Tour events.

Despite potential sanctions, Hatton will be participating in the Betfred British Masters as he has an appeal pending against the DP World Tour’s Conflicting Tournament Regulation fine. The outcome of the appeal is still pending, but Hatton has already served his outstanding suspensions. His participation in the British Masters is also important as Ryder Cup qualification begins at this event. Players are unable to earn Ryder Cup qualification points at LIV events, making DP World Tour events crucial for potential team selection.

Hatton has expressed his desire to be a part of Team Europe at the Ryder Cup in Bethpage next September, along with Jon Rahm. To collect as many points as possible for Ryder Cup qualification, both players are expected to participate in DP World Tour events and Major championships. Hatton is also scheduled to compete in the Open de Espana and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship after the British Masters. Rahm’s schedule has not been confirmed yet, but he is also expected to feature in four DP World Tour events before the season ends.

At the British Masters, Hatton will be teeing off alongside 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett and Italian Guido Migliozzi. The tournament provides an opportunity for Hatton to earn valuable points for Ryder Cup qualification and to continue his successful run with LIV Golf. With his strong performance in LIV events and potential success on the DP World Tour, Hatton is positioning himself well for a spot on the Ryder Cup team next year. His dedication to both circuits and his competitive spirit make him a formidable competitor on the golfing scene.
