When it comes to hitting a flop shot around the green in golf, there are multiple techniques that can be used. While there are some widely accepted methods for hitting this shot, it’s important to find a technique that works best for you and helps you become more consistent. In a recent video, GOLF Top 100 Teachers Joe Hallett and Bryan Lebedevitch outline two different ways to approach the flop shot.

The first method, which they refer to as the safe method, involves setting up with a wide stance and an open clubface. The ball should be placed slightly forward in the stance, and during the takeaway, the focus should be on getting wide. In the follow-through, it’s important not to release the wrists and to take the hands out of the shot. This technique is ideal for players who may not be as confident in their short games.

The second method is a more high-level technique that requires a bit more confidence to pull off. For this shot, the ball is once again placed in the front of the stance, with the feet a little closer together. The wrists are hinged on the takeaway, and during the downswing, they are aggressively released, allowing the clubhead to pass the hands near impact. This method allows for a more free feeling of the clubhead into the finish.

Both methods have their merits, and it ultimately comes down to personal preference and which technique gives you the most confidence. It’s important to try out both methods and see which one you can execute consistently. Once you find a technique that works for you, stick with it and practice it regularly to improve your flop shot game.

Finding the right technique for hitting a flop shot can greatly improve your game around the green. By experimenting with different methods and practicing consistently, you can become more confident in your short game and lower your scores on the golf course. So take the time to find a technique that works best for you and watch as your skills improve.
