Scottie Scheffler has been dominating the PGA Tour’s signature events this season, adding to his FedEx Cup points and earnings as the world’s No. 1-ranked golfer. This week, he leads the field for the Travelers Championship, the eighth and final signature event of the 2024 season. Despite coming off his worst finish of the season at Pinehurst, Scheffler has had an impressive streak of 11 top-10 finishes, including five victories. His biggest triumphs this season have been at The Masters and The Players Championship, but he has also excelled in the Tour’s new Signature Series.

In all six of his signature event starts this season, Scheffler has finished in the top 10, with four of those finishes being in the top five. He has won three of these events, including The Memorial, the RBC Heritage, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. More than half of his FedEx Cup points and earnings have come from these signature events, with Scheffler having a significant lead in both categories. Despite facing challenges at Pinehurst, Scheffler has only shot over-par in one out of 23 rounds this season, with a scoring average of 68.0 and being 88 under par.

While Scheffler has never won The Travelers, he has had good finishes in his last two starts, tying for fourth last year and for 13th in 2022. At Pinehurst, he struggled with various factors, resulting in rounds of 71, 74, 71, and 72. Scheffler acknowledged the mental challenges of the game, especially at tough events like the U.S. Open, where he had a frustrating experience. His tee game was unusually erratic at Pinehurst, with a low number of fairways hit in the first few rounds.

Looking ahead, Scheffler hinted at potentially altering his schedule to better prepare for challenging events like the U.S. Open. He suggested that for major championships, he may opt not to play the week before to ensure he is well-rested and adequately prepared. These considerations are part of Scheffler’s plans for the future, as he reflects on his performance at Pinehurst and looks to make strategic adjustments for upcoming tournaments. Despite the challenges he faced at Pinehurst, Scheffler remains a formidable competitor on the PGA Tour, with his sights set on continued success in the Travelers Championship and beyond.
